Title: Kids Search
1Kids Search
2Welcome to EBSCOs Kids Search tutorial. The Kids
Search interface offers kindergarten through
grade school students an age-appropriate,
easy-to-use interface, with an emphasis on
searching by topic, such as geography, arts
music, health, or sports.
3Starting on the Home Page, enter your term(s) in
the Find field, and then click Go, or click on
any of the Topic images located in the area just
below the Find field.
4Source types represented in the Result List are
shown in the colorful boxes at the top. When
clicked, you can view results from that source
type only, such as Magazines or Photos.
5The Detailed Search screen includes the Search By
Topic list. When you click on a Topic, a list of
appropriate subtopics displays. These subtopics
can then be checked and included in your search.
Topic Searching helps to focus your research from
a broad concept to a narrower one.
6The Dictionary button leads to a Look up field
where you can enter terms. The Dictionary
includes a special Vocabulary Challenge section,
linking to definitions of featured terms.
7You can also click on the Encyclopedia and enter
terms in the Look up field. Information about the
Encyclopedia is displayed on the screen.
8You can print, e-mail, or save any article from a
Result List by clicking on its title link and
then clicking on the Print, E-mail, or Save link.
To manage multiple results, add them to the
folder, and then print, e-mail, or save them from
inside the folder. Save folder items beyond the
current session by clicking on the Sign In link
and setting up a free personalized folder account.
9The Teacher Resources button appears when one of
these databases is available in the Kids Search
profile Academic Search Elite/Premier, ERIC or
Prof. Dev. Collection. In addition to limiters
and expanders, the Teacher Resources screen
includes radio buttons for selecting databases,
links to curriculum standards for the U.S.,
Canada, and the US Dept. of Defense Education
Schools, plus links to other education web sites.
10At any time, click on the Help link to view the
complete online Help system.
