Paragraph vs. Essay
  • A paragraph contains a topic sentence, which is
    the the guiding sentence for the paragraph.
  • An essay contains a similar sentence, but it is
    called the thesis statement. The function of the
    thesis statement is the same as that of the topic
    sentence, but it is not the first sentence of the
    essay.
