3Introduction
- The Purpose of the discussion is to show how
Chelation Therapy can help people of all ages
achieve improved health by eliminating
environmental heavy metals from the body - This treatment is used for reversing heart
disease without drugs or surgery. - It should be the function of medicine to help
people die young as late in life as possible
Ernst Wynder - This treatment is available in Ireland
- Over one million people have been Chelated
- Also will demonstrate how life style factors,
nutrients and foods will help harness the power
for optimal health - Show the connection between inflammation and
disease .

5Heavy Metals - Environmental Toxicities
- What are they ?
- Where do they come from ?
- What effect have they on our bodies ?
- How are we protected against these heavy
metals/free radicals ? - How are they removed ?
- How do they impact on our health when they are
removed ?
6Heavy Metals what are they and where do they
come from?
- Lead petrol, paint, batteries, certain water
mains - Mercury fillings in teeth, fish, paint,
numerous appliances such as mercury thermometers,
nasal sprays and eye drops, certain vaccines. - Cadmium Cigarettes, tyres, metal platings
- Arsenic Pesticides, chicken feeds, rice,
treated wood
7Heavy Metals what are they and where do they
come from?
- Aluminum Cooking wares, aluminum foil,
antacids, certain vaccines, canned drinks/foods - Antimony Carpets, flame retardant clothes
- Iron
- Copper
8Heavy Metals what effect do they have on our
bodies?
- Oxidation - forms free radicals which result in
cell damage - This sets up the inflammatory response, a
protective mechanism, but when left unchecked
leads to the chronic diseases - Symptoms
- Circulatory problems arteriosclerosis
(hardening of arteries) - Poor skin texture
- Failing eyesight
- Diminishing hearing
- Failing memory
- Tiredness
9Heavy Metals what effect do they have on our
bodies?
- Severe Symptoms
- Chest Pains (angina) and Heart Disease
- Intermittent Claudication and Leg Circulation
Problems - Stroke
- Gangrene
- Chronic Fatigue (ME)/fibromyalgia and pain
- Arthritic Diseases
- Neuro-degenerative diseases/ neurological
disorders - Osteoporosis
- Impotence
- Irritable bowel syndrome and other digestive
complaints
10Heavy Metals how are we protected against
these free radicals?
- Nutrition/Antioxidants in food and metabolised in
the body - Vitamins A, B Complex, C, E, B12 , B6, Folic
Acid, Niacin - Essential Fatty Acids These are extremely
important. I myself recommend nordic natural
products as being the purest and most potent.
They are a most powerful anti-inflammatory agent - Co-Enzyme Q10
- Trace elements Magnesium, Selenium, Chromium,
Zinc
11Heavy Metals how are we protected against these
free radicals?
- Diet /nutrition let food be your medicine and
let medicine be your food- Hippocrates - Supplementation
- Skin release
- Good kidney eliminations
- Good bowel eliminations
- Exercise
- Healthy lifestyle
12Where do we go from here ?
- The protection we receive from our natural
defenses fails to protect us over time against
free radical damage, resulting in cell
degeneration and the process we call ageing - The only solution once this process occurs is IV
EDTA CHELATION - Prevention is better than cure
- The only way this process can be reversed is IV
EDTA CHELATION
13 I.V EDTA Chelation Therapy (Intravenous
Ethylene-Diamine-Tetra-Acetic acid)
We do not degenerate because we grow old, we
grow old because we degenerate- The Health
Revolution.
14What is Chelation ?
- Chelation Greek word Chele which means to
claw or to grasp - Chelating agents, such as EDTA grasp the heavy
metals and remove them via the kidneys - Chelation therapy has far reaching benefits and
is one of the best rejuvenating therapies
available
15EDTA Chelation Therapy - how is Chelation Therapy
Administered?
- Administration intravenously via a small vein
in the hand - It is a painless non-surgical procedure
- Following the protocol developed by the American
College for Advancement in Medicine (ACAM) - The chemical EDTA along with Mg, Vit B complex,
Vit C, folic acid, Vit B12, Vit B6, glutathione
and other additives are given in a series of IV
treatments under close medical supervision and
control. - Chelating agent is EDTA the additional agents
assist via their anti-oxidant properties
16EDTA Chelation Therapy how is Chelation Therapy
Administered
- EDTA picks up the metals from the body's tissues
- EDTA along with the metals is excreted through
the kidneys. - Results in the restoration of cells and enzymatic
systems to a younger and healthier state - EDTA is cleared from the body in 24 hours
- Each treatment takes 3 hours and is given
when the patient is seated in a comfortable chair
while they read, sleep or chat to their
neighbours. It is recommended that treatments be
at least 24 hours apart.
17Other gains in utilising EDTA?
- Protects and helps reverse free radical damage -
plaque formation and hardening of arteries - Powerful anti-oxidant prevents oxidation of
LDLs - Calcium removal enhances blood flow -
promoting deposition in bone preventing
osteoporosis - In effect it enhances blood flow from head to
toe - Improves both hormone, and enzyme efficiency as
well as prostaglandin formation
18Other Factors
- Quit smoking
- Nutrition/Diet OUT sugar, processed foods,
hydrogenated/partially hydrogenated fats. - Nutrition/Diet IN fresh fruits, vegetables,
wholegrain, fish and water - Stress reduction
- Appropriate exercise program
- Balanced vitamin and mineral supplementation
19Iron and Copper Friend and Foe
- Iron
- Iron essential for hemoglobin formation
- Excess Iron
- When oxidised becomes a potent free radical
- Copper
- Essential in small doses
- Excess Copper
- When oxidised becomes a free radical
20Role of Inflammation in cardio-vascular disease
Peter Libby M.D
- As recently as 5 years ago most physicians would
have confidently described atherosclerosis as a
straight plumbing problem, few believe this tidy
explanation today - Inflammation plays a key role, 85 of heart
attacks occur not as a result of the extent of
blockage but the condition of the plaque - The new view clarifies why therapies that focus
on widening the blood passage in semi-occluded
arteries (balloon angioplasty or insertion of
stents) or on surgically creating a by-pass can
ease angina yet frequently fail to prevent a
future heart attack. In such cases the danger
lurks elsewhere when a plaque causes less
narrowing but is more prone to rupturing. Sadly
even when stenosis is the problem, treated
arteries come reoccluded fairly rapidly
apparently in part because the treatment can
illicit a robust inflammatory response
21Treatment recommendations
- Schedules are flexible
- Preventative or Aesthetic reasons
- 10 to15 treatments sufficient
- Serious diseases
- 30 treatments or more may be necessary
- Booster doses
22EDTA Chelation Therapy does this treatment
have side effects?
- Reaction to EDTA (or vitamins) rarely occur and
if so the effects are minimal - Reactions can be avoided by giving smaller doses
and building up to the desired level. - Inflammation at the site of the IV may occur and
is treated with compresses. - Diabetics and patients suffering from heart
failure and kidney disease are carefully
monitored and dosages may be adjusted according
to their condition.
23EDTA Chelation Therapy is Chelation Therapy
Safe?
- Following the protocol of the A.C.A.M. (American
College for Advancement in Medicine) EDTA
chelation is safer than taking a simple aspirin. - Over one million patients worldwide have been
chelated, with no reported deaths or serious
consequences in the last thirty years. - The A.C.A.M protocol should be strictly adhered
to at all times.
24EDTA Chelation Therapy can I drop in for a
quick chelation?
- No. Chelation will not be given without up to
date - Laboratory tests
- Medical history
- Clinical examination consisting of appropriate
blood tests, ECG, Doppler ultrasound studies,
chest x-ray which comply with the protocol. - If complete copies of records and investigations
from another physician are available and of
acceptable quality and recent, the initial
investigation may be abbreviated.
25What should one do if seeking chelation therapy?
- Make appointment with chelating physician
preferably an accredited member of A.C.A.M.
26What other Chelating agents are there?
- ? DMSA (DiMercaptoSuccinic Acid)
- ? DMPS (DiMercaptoPropanesulfonic Acid)
- ? TTFD (Transdermal Allithiamine)
27DMSA (Dimercaptosuccinic acid)
- ? DMSA is an oral chelator effective in the
removal of mercury - DMSA is prescribed according to a well
established protocol - Dosage is 10mg/kg body weight/3times daily for
three days on and 11 days off. - ? Full blood count (FBC) and blood chemistry
tests are repeated at four month intervals. - Mobilization and excretion of the heavy metals
produces a shift in the equilibrium between the
various compartments of the body. This exerts an
almost magnetic effect on metals in depots which
are not directly accessible to the chelating
agent. The body attempts to restore this
equilibrium, hence the heavy metals will then
migrate partially into compartments where it is
accessible to the chelating agent.
28The use of Chelation in Autism
- EDTA is ineffective orally and via suppository
- EDTA is not used in Autism
- The oral chelator of choice is DMSA
(Dimercaptosuccinic Acid) - Particularly effective in chelating mercury
- Protocol for the treatment of Autism is the DAN
protocol.
29Protocol for specific mercury detoxification
- Protocol for removal of mercury fillings
- Removal of mercury filling-dental procedure
- I. V. Vitamin therapy
- Removal of mercury from the tissues via the oral
chelating agent DMSA
30Other Heavy Metal Detox Options
- ? Glutathione
- ? Alpha Lipoic Acid
- ? N-Acteyl Cysteine
- ? TTFD-Allithiamine
- ? Transdermal DMPS 1.5mg/kg every other day
- ? Transdermal DMSA 10mg/kg three times a day days
on and 11 days off.
