• Objective
• To determine if measurement of postprandial TG
  level improves risk prediction of CV events over
  traditional risk markers in stable patients with
  CVD
• Study Design
• Prospective, observational, cohort (18-month time
  frame)
• 514 consecutive patients with angiographically
  confirmed, clinically stable CAD
• Primary Outcome
• Composite of CV death and CV hospitalization
  (including hospitalization for ACS, unplanned
  coronary angiography, HF, ischemic stroke or TIA,
  cardiac arrhythmia requiring resuscitation, and
  unplanned cardiac device implantation)

• Summary
• Postprandial TG did not predict CV outcomes in
  the total cohort of patients with CAD on statin
  treatment
• In patients with CAD and IGT/diabetes, fasting
  and postprandial TG were elevated but did not
  independently predict CV outcomes
• In patients with CAD and normal glucose
  metabolism, both fasting and postprandial TG were
  independent markers for CV outcomes
• Conclusion
• Fasting triglycerides and postprandial
  triglycerides correlate with CV events in
  patients with CAD and normal glucose tolerance
  but do not independently predict CV outcomes in
  patients with impaired glucose metabolism
