CHLAMYDIA
Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease (STD)
that is caused by the bacterium Chlamydia
trachomatis. Because approximately 75 of women
and 50 of men have no symptoms, most people
infected with Chlamydia are not aware of their
infections and therefore may not seek health
care.

CRABS (PUBIC LICE)
Pubic lice are very small (about 1/8th inch in
diameter) creatures that live in the pubic hair
and cause a lot of itching. They are not a
serious sexually transmitted disease but they can
cause a lot of discomfort. The little bugs have
claws that hold on to the pubic hairs and they
feed off the infected persons skin. If you have
sex with a person who has pubic lice, some of the
bugs may be spread to you. They can also fall off
a person who is infected with them and land on
towels, bed sheets or blankets, or clothes.
Therefore, crabs may be spread by sheets, towels
or by sharing clothes but it is most commonly
spread by sex.

GONORRHEA
Gonorrhea is a common adult disease, though a
significant proportion of those with infection
(up to 80 among women, 10 among men) are
asymptomatic, i.e., they do not have symptoms and
therefore they are neither aware of the need for
treatment nor of the risk of transmitting the
disease to others.

HEPATITIS B
Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver caused by
a virus. Globally, there are over 400 million
chronic carriers of hepatitis B. Of the 200,000
people who contract hepatitis B each year in the
USA, 10-15,000 go on to develop a chronic form of
the disease. Men are six times more likely than
women to become chronic carriers of the hepatitis
B virus (HBV) although the reasons for that are
unclear.

SYPHILIS
Syphilis is a complex sexually transmitted
disease (STD) caused by the bacterium Treponema
Pallidum. It has often been called the great
imitator because so many of the signs and
symptoms are indistinguishable from those of
other diseases.

VAGINITIS YEAST INFECTIONS
Vaginitis is a medical term that is used to refer
to any infection or inflammation of the vagina.
The symptoms of vaginitis are common and most
women will have at least one form of vaginitis in
their lifetime. Even though vaginitis is so
common, many women know little about it. The term
"yeast infection" is what most women think of
when they hear the word vaginitis. However, a
yeast infection is only one kind of vaginal
infection. Vaginitis can be caused by several
different organisms, sometimes at the same time,
as well as by hormonal changes, allergies, or
irritations.
