Colonization of the New World
  • The French came as explorers In 1524
  • King Francis I was on the throne at the time
  • Came seeking a route to the Pacific Ocean and
    wealth
  • By 1750 New France had a population of 75,000
  • Britain's population in the new world was 1.5
    million

French and Indian War
  • War between France and Britain in the New World
  • Started because of disputes over territory 
  • In 1763 New France was lost to Britain and Spain

  • July 1, 1867
  • Federal Dominion of Canada formed
  • British colonies-Canada-New Brunswick-Nova
    Scotia
  • Canada (the colony) was split into the Provinces
    of Quebec and Ontario

    national identity as a Canadien
  • the Quiet Revolution changed this, as it was a
    period of secularization 
  • Took Health Care and Education out of the Roman
    Catholic Church's hands, and left it up to the
    provincial government
