CLASSIFICATION
  • Life Safety
  • Rope dedicated solely for the purpose of
    supporting people in rescue, fire fighting, or
    any other emergency operation, or during training
    evolutions

    exception of life safety
  • Note All ropes used for life safety purposes
    must comply with NFPA 1983, Fire service life

  • Synthetic Fiber
  • Usually nylon or polyester
  • Fibers are continuous (for life safety)
  • Resist mildew, dry rot, chemical damage
  • Stronger than natural fiber rope
  • Natural Fiber
  • usually manila sisal or cotton
  • constructed of short natural fibers
  • Deteriorates rapidly over time
  • Looses strength after it is wet
  • Susceptible to mildew,dry rot, chemical damage,
    abrasion
