4Modem Pool Update
- Beginning 3-year process to phase out modem pool
access - Current modem pool will be upgraded and in place

5Initial Details
- There will be a new dial in number
- Reduction to 300 modems may increase busy signals
and decrease access - Call time-out after 1 hour
- IP only
- Other dial-in solutions will not be granted

- Annual definition of recommended PC and Apple
configuration for standard business user - Software Standards
- Desktop applications and/or clients necessary to
communicate with enterprise applications - Identify one standard for each platform
(PC/Apple) and no more than 2 alternatives
20DeskNet Methodology
- DeskNet Working Group reviews, modifies and
defines during a scheduled meeting - Hardware recommendations and Software standards
are reviewed every academic year - Spring is used as trigger to update the standards
- All standards are posted on it.emory.edu
- Any significant changes to a standard will have a
detailed migration and communications plan - Example McAfee to Symantec
