Title: Homework

1
Homework.
  • Find a diagram of a plant and animal cell
    (textbook or internet).
  • Redraw both cells and label them fully.
  • Research the difference between a prokaryote and
eukaryote cell. Put your info into a suitable
    table.
  • Due 15/09

Title Cells
  • Lesson Objectives
  • Can I name and identify cell organelles? Grade C
  • Can I compare and contrast prokaryotic and
    eukaryotic cells? Grade B/A

Cell theory.
  • The basic principles of the cell theory are
  • All organisms are made of cells that resemble
each other by having internal structures and a
    boundary
  • These cells are always formed by the division of
    pre-existing cells
  • Cells contain inherited information which
    determines their activity
  • Given suitable conditions, cells are capable of
    independent existence
  • Can you name the 7 characteristics all living
    things share?

7
Cell Structure
  • Given these principles of cells, biologists
recognise two types of cellular structure
  • Prokaryotic cells (before the nucleus)
  • Eukaryotic cells (with a nucleus)
  • Virus particles do not fulfil the criteria of the
cell theory and so are regarded as being
non-cellular. Some texts may refer to their
structure as being akaryotic (without a nucleus)
