- First Rotary Club in Chicago in 1905 by Paul P.
Harris - Original club met for fellowship, in rotation,
hence the name Rotary - Now 33,000 clubs with 1.2 million members

- There needed to be a purpose!
- First project a public washroom in Chicago
- Rotary became worlds 1st service club
- 1910 - RC Winnipeg, Manitoba chartered and made
Rotary International

- Rotary International governed by a President and
Board of Directors elected from around the world - Each district annually selects a District
Governor - Each Rotary Club is an autonomous group
- Charters with 20 members

- Divided into 34 Zones
- 529 Districts
- 168 countries worldwide
- Athabasca is in D5370 - covers northern Alberta,
NW Saskatchewan, NE B.C. and N.W.T.
