The Cassowary is classified as a bird because
  • It has feathers
  • It has lungs
  • It lays eggs

Characteristics
  • It stands about 5 feet tall.
  • It weighs about 120 pounds.
  • It cannot fly.
  • It can sprint as fast as 40 miles per hour.
  • It has three toes.
  • It has bristly feathers.

Appearance
  • The bare skin and fore-neck is blue, while
    the rear of the neck is red. In appearance, the
    Cassowary looks like a short, heavy-built, black
    and blue emu.

Young Cassowaries are browner than adults, and
have duller colored head and neck.
The chicks are striped yellow and black.

  • It lives in the forest floor in the tropical
    rainforest.
