What is Microsoft PowerPoint?
PowerPoint 2003 is apresentation graphics program
  • Display information graphically with animations,
    transitions, and other effects
  • Create visual aids for a presentation
  • Run a presentation on a computer or the Web
  • Prepare 35mm slides or transparencies

To start PowerPoint, click the Start button,
point to Programs, and Microsoft Office and then
click Microsoft PowerPoint

Choosing a Design Template
Click on the Slide Design button
In the Slide Design Task Pane, click the design
template you want to use

Placeholders and Text Areas
  • Placeholders can be used display slide titles,
    body text, charts, tables, media clips and clip
    art.
  • Text areas are surrounded by a dotted outline.

Save a Presentation on a USB
Click the Save button on the Standard toolbar
If necessary, select the folder
Key the file name
Click Save

Adding a New Slide
Click the New Slide button on the Formatting
toolbar
If desired, click a different layout in the Slide
Layout Task Pane
Defaults to bullets used most often

Increasing Indents
Display the slide in Normal view
Click at the left edge of the text you want to
demote
Click the Increase Indent button on the
Formatting toolbar
Note You can also demote text by pressing Tab.

Decreasing Indents
Display the slide in Normal view
Click at the left edge of the text you want to
promote
Click the Decrease Indent button on the
Formatting toolbar
Note You can also promote text by pressing Shift
Tab.

Ending a Slide Show with a Black Slide
  • Click Options in the Tools menu. Click the View
    tab and if necessary add a check mark to the End
    with Black Slide check box.

Note The black slide focuses the audiences
attention on the speaker.

Running a Presentation
Click the Slide Show button on the View toolbar
Note To start the slide show at the beginning,
make Slide 1 the active slide.
If slides are not set up to advance
automatically, advance by clicking the left mouse
button or by pressing certain keys on the keyboard
To end the slide show, press Esc

Checking Spelling
Click the Spelling button on the Standard toolbar
Correct errors
If necessary, click Resume to continue checking
Click OK when the spelling check is complete

Printing a Presentation
With the presentation open, click File, Print
Select the print settings
All or some slides?
Slides, handouts or notes?
Color or black and white?
Then Click OK

Using Help
Click in the Ask a Question text box on the Menu
bar
Key the question
Press Enter
Click a link in the drop-down list
Continue clicking links to display additional
topics
Click the Close button when finished

Click on Header and Footer in the View menu
