GENESIS AND OBJECTIVE OF THE CENTRE
Patent Information Centre (PIC) Kolkata (W.B.)  

• The first State level facility to provide Patent
  IPR related service was set up in Kolkata in
  collaboration with PFC -TIFAC
• Inaugurated in September 1997 by Honble Chief
  Minister of West Bengal.
• PIC Stepped into 3rd phase during 11th plan
  period since 2008.

Role Played by the State Govt. in facilitating GI
Registration

• Notification published PIC has been declared as
  a Nodal agency in respect of GI in the state and
  shall identify the GI items in consultation with
  the concerned organisations/associations/line
  govt. deptts. and individual experts.
• PIC shall file applications for GI registration
  on behalf of any association of persons/producers
  and organisations of the state.
