• This trial was undertaken with a year 4/5 class.
• Students provided a pre-trial sample of
  handwriting (without instruction)
• We then discussed the criteria for 5 star hotels
  and used this as an analogy for handwriting.
• Students were explicitly taught how to form
  letters and then came up with their own criteria
  for their writing.
• Students self-assessed their handwriting each
  lesson based on the criteria.
• Students were highly engaged in the lessons which
  lasted about 20 minutes.
• Some students were provided with pencil grips to
  support correct handwriting grip.
• All students were provided with a slope sheet
  which was rested under the page to support slope
  and correct sizing.
• All students had a copy of the laminated letters
  with correct formation on their desks.
• Students handwriting improved over the trial.

fingers) 2. Hold pencil with go fingers -
thumb, 2nd and 3rd fingers (use the side of the
long finger)
