HARIS 5O
SURVIVAL KIT

HATCHET

I would choose a hatchet for my first choice,
because if Brian Robeson can use it to make fire,
and bows or arrows, I can. I could use that for
getting food and getting tree limbs for the fire.
With the hatchet, I could survive in the woods.
Brian survived in the woods with only a hatchet
at first. He used the hatchet to make weapons. He
also used it for safety and protection. A hatchet
is more important than matches, because a hatchet
can help with many things, and matches only give
you fire that you can actually make using a
hatchet.
I can use a hatchet to catch fish by making a
spear or bow and arrow.

Matches
My second choice is matches. With matches, I
could make fire. The fire will protect me from
wild animals. Animals like porcupines, or insects
like flies or mosquitoes, are all afraid of fire.
Fire will also help me cook my food. Brian
Robeson used the matches to light a fire, and he
did not have to worry about it going out. Using
matches, I will never have to worry about animals
or insects coming into my shelter, since I have a
fire that will always be easy to restart. I will
also pack about a hundred packs of matches,
because if I run out of matches, I will have more
matches to use. I would pack that many matches,
because I might not be rescued for a long time.
Matches are more important than cookware, because
I would rather have a fire with no cookware than
cookware with no fire.
4
Cookware
I can use cookware to carry water I want to
drink, and to carry raspberries, as well as,
their juice. I could use the cookware to put my
food in, and to boil the water, so it would get
clean enough to drink. At the end of the book,
Brian Robeson used the cookware to cook his food
and to make his drinks. I would use the cookware
to do the same as Brian.
5
Food is my third choice, because I need food to
survive. I know what you are thinking, How would
he keep it from being rotten, and how is he going
to cook it? Where is he going to get the
ingredients? I noticed that the food in the
survival pack was in plastic, so it wouldnt get
rotten. TADAAH!!! Theres your answer. I have the
kind of food that is freeze-dried, so all I have
to do is boil it with water, and it will be
cooked. I will have the drink that is in plastic,
too. It will only need water and some shaking to
make it a drink, so I could drink it. I would
make a food shelf, so my food will be protected.
I would be following Brians plan to make a food
shelf. He made one, because he also knows he has
to protect his food from wild animals. I will put
some fire and some food above my rock shelter, so
birds wont come, and animals wont be able to
reach that high to take my food. Brian did the
same thing as I would have done.

5) ROPES
My fifth choice is ropes I can use to make a
food shelf. I would tie many logs with the rope
and use them like a door. Pulling on the rope
would allow me to get into my shelter. No animals
can get to my shelter if I dug a moat around it.
I could also use ropes to make a raft if I wanted
to go fishing, or river rafting! Hahaha!
7
Knife
I chose a knife as my sixth choice, because I
could use the knife to kill animals, and I can
use it to skin them to eat. I can use animal fur
to make a coat, pants, and a large blanket to
keep me warm in the fall, winter, and during the
cold nights that have freezing temperatures.

I chose a first aid kit as my seventh choice,
because if I get hurt, I will be able to
recuperate easily using the things in the first
aid kit to heal myself. Healing is the most
important thing, because if I am hurt badly, I
will not be able to hunt, cook, or even light a
fire with my matches. I will not be able to feed
my fire tree limbs. If I cannot hunt, I will not
get food. If I do not get food, I would not
survive. It would be hard for me to keep myself
from getting hurt, so I will get some tree limbs
every morning. If I get hurt, I will be there to
feed it the tree limbs. I would make a food shelf
just like Brian did, and I will fill it, so if I
get hurt badly, I will still have food. This is
something Brian did. The food will also be safe
from many animals. It is not so important,
because I can still survive without getting hurt
badly. In other words, I can take care of myself,
so I do not get hurt.
