• It started in the late 1910's.
• It was an African American literacy and artistic
  movement.
• It was were the voice of the African American was
  heard.

What caused the Harlem Renaissance?

• African Americans weren't being accepted as an
  equal to white Americans.
• They wanted there voice to be heard.

Growth of Harlem

• Moved north during the great migration.
• night clubs and jazz lured intellectuals to
  Harlem.
