- Arundhati Roy was born in 1961 in Shillong,
Meghalaya,India. - Her mother was a rights activist.
- Her brother had schizophrenia and committed
suicide, possibly while under the influence of
drugs of abuse. - At the School of Planning and Architecture in New
Delhi she met her first husband the architect
Gerard DaCunha. - Roy met her second husband, filmmaker Pradip
Krishen, in 1984. - Roy began writing her first novel, The God of
Small Things, in 1992, completing it in 1996. - In 2007, Roy announced that she would begin work
on a second novel.
