examination 031TEX02.
429 CFR 1910.147 The Control of Hazardous Energy
- Applies to the control of energy during
servicing and/or maintenance of machines and
equipment.
5Conditions Requiring Lockout/Tagout Procedures
- Unexpected energizing or start-up of machinery or
equipment. - Potential release of hazardous energy.
- Confined spaces or adjacent areas.
6Lockout/Tagout
- Modifications of machinery after January 2, 1990.
7Terminology
- Authorized Employee - A person who implements
lockout/tagout procedures. - Affected Employee - An employee who operates or
uses equipment and machinery.
8Terminology
- Energy isolating device - A device which prevents
the transmission or release of energy. - Energy source - Any source of electrical
mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical,
thermal or other energy source.
9Terminology
- Lockout
- The placement of a lockout device on an energy
isolating device. - Lockout device
- A device used to hold an energy isolating device
in a safe position.
10Terminology
- Tagout
- The placement of a tagout device on an energy
isolating device. - Tagout device
- A prominent warning device, such as a tag.
11Lockout/Tagout
- If energy isolating devices are unable to be
locked out, a tagout device must be utilized. - If energy isolating devices are capable of being
locked out, a lockout device must be used.
