Introduction
  • Students can meet the assessment graduation
    requirement one of three ways
  • HSPA
  • AHSA
  • Appeals
  • The Alternative High School Assessment (AHSA) is
    administered to students who have not passed the
    High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA).
  • The AHSA is administered three times per year.

AHSA Mathematics
  • Each Math Standard has Performance Assessment
    Tasks (PATs) associated with them.
  • A student is considered to have taken a
    complete set of AHSA PATs when they are
    administered at least one PAT in each of the 4
    Standards.
  • Each PAT has a raw score range of 0-3. A score
    of 2 is considered passing.

AHSA Language Arts Literacy
  • A student is considered to have taken a
    complete set of AHSA PATs when they are
    administered at least 2 Reading PATs and one
    Writing PAT.
  • For Reading, the raw score range for each PAT is
    0-4. A score of 3 is considered passing.
  • For Writing, the raw score range is from 2-12. A
    score of 6 is considered passing.

AHSA Mathematics
  • Through the second administration of AHSA, 8,174
    students were administered at least one PAT in
    each Math Standard (complete set), with 5,010
    students passing.

AHSA Language Arts Literacy
  • Through the second administration of AHSA, 6,216
    students were administered at least two Reading
    and one Writing PAT (complete set) with 2,625
    students passing.

February Appeals
  • 293 out of 586 students passed the Math appeals
    process.
  • 261 out of 324 students passed the LAL appeals
    process.

June Appeals
  • 983 out of 1,369 students passed the Math appeals
    process.
  • 319 out of 517 students passed the LAL appeals
    process.

Next Steps
  • The third AHSA testing window is still open and
    there are students who are enrolled in summer
    school.
  • The HSPA and AHSA/appeals data will be tabulated
    at the student level in NJSMART.
  • The graduation rate will then be calculated to
    determine the percentage of students that passed
    the assessment graduation requirement via HSPA or
    AHSA/appeals (Fall 2011).
