Title: MISTAKES OF A SUCCESFUL BUSINESS MAN
1MISTAKES OF A SUCCESFUL BUSINESS MAN LUKE
1216-21
2It is better to make a life than a living, Wm.
E. Russell (former
of Governor of Massachusetts.)
This was also Jesus philosophy.
Matthew 619-21, 24-26
"Do not lay up for
yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and
rust destroy and where thieves break in and
steal but lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and
where thieves do not break in and steal. For
where your treasure is, there your heart will be
also.
No one can serve two masters for either he will
hate the one and love the other, or else he will
be loyal to the one and despise the other. You
cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say to
you, do not worry about your life, what you will
eat or what you will drink nor about your body,
what you will put on. Is not life more than food
and the body more than clothing?
3Look at the birds of the air, for they neither
sow nor reap nor gather into barns yet your
heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more
value than they?
Luke 1216-21
And He said to
them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for
one's life does not consist in the abundance of
the things he possesses.'' Then He spoke a
parable to them, saying "The ground of a
certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he
thought within himself, saying, What shall I do,
since I have no room to store my crops?' So he
said, I will do this I will pull down my barns
and build greater, and there I will store all my
crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul,
"Soul, you have many goods laid up for many
years take your ease eat, drink, and be
merry.'' ' But God said to him, You fool! This
night your soul will be required of you then
whose will those things be which you have
provided?' So is he who lays up treasure for
himself, and is not rich toward God.''
4The Qualities Of This Businessman
He was rich, Luke 1216.
Riches can be used for good.
Joseph of Arimathea asked for the body of Jesus
and put it in his own tomb, Matthew 2757
The early Christians were selling their
possessions and laying the money at the feet of
the apostles.
Paul does give a warning.
5I Timothy 69-10
But those who
desire to be rich fall into temptation and a
snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts
which drown men in destruction and perdition.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of
evil, for which some have strayed from the faith
in their greediness, and pierced themselves
through with many sorrows.
Its the love of money thats wrong.
He made it honestly.
He was successful.
As far we know he was a good moral man.
Yet God called him a
FOOL
6The Mistakes Of This Business Man
He was selfish.
Look at all the personal pronouns used in 3
verses.
My barns
My crops
My goods
My soul
Six times he used the word I.
He never thought of others.
Galatians 610
So then, as
we have opportunity, let us do good to all men,
and especially to those who are of the household
of faith.
7Philippians 23
Do nothing from
selfishness or conceit, but in humility count
others better than yourselves.
Mr. Heinzs motto
God first
Others second
Pickles last
Someone has said there will be 3 questions asked
concerning this
Did you make all you could?
How did you make it?
How did you use what you made?
THIS IS WHERE THIS MAN FELL SHORT!
He thought his soul could be satisfied by
material things.
Eat, drink, and be merry
8The material things will perish.
I John 215-17
Do not love
the world or the things in the world. If anyone
loves the world, the love of the Father is not in
him. For all that is in the world the lust of
the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of
life is not of the Father but is of the world.
And the world is passing away, and the lust of
it but he who does the will of God abides
forever.
II Corinthians 416-18
Therefore we do
not lose heart. Even though our outward man is
perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed
day by day. For our light affliction, which is
but for a moment, is working for us a far more
exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we
do not look at the things which are seen, but at
the things which are not seen. For the things
which are seen are temporary, but the things
which are not seen are eternal.
9How should we live?
Matthew 44
It is
written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but
by every word that proceeds from the mouth of
God.'
John 627
"Do not labor
for the food which perishes, but for the food
which endures to everlasting life, which the Son
of Man will give you, because God the Father has
set His seal on Him.''
Colossians 31-2
If then you
were raised with Christ, seek those things which
are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right
hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not
on things on the earth.
10He thought he had a lease on life.
Ecclesiastes 95
For the
living know that they will die.
Job 141-2
Man who is born
of woman is of few days and full of trouble. He
comes forth like a flower and fades away he
flees like a shadow and does not continue.
I Peter 124
"All
flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as
the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and
its flower falls away,
Hebrews 927
And just as it
is appointed for men to die once, and after that
comes the judgment.
11 James 413-16
Come now, you
who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such
and such a city, spend a year there, buy and
sell, and make a profit'' whereas you do not
know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your
life? It is even a vapor that appears for a
little time and then vanishes away. Instead you
ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live
and do this or that.'' But now you boast in your
arrogance. All such boasting is evil.
He left God out of his life.
Without God there is no Christ.
Without Christ there is no Savior.
Without a Savior there is no hope.
12This man provided for himself ample goods for
this life.
He made no such provisions for the life to come.
