The Geographical Positioning of and Short Insight
of Claremorris

• Claremorris is situated in the West of Ireland in
  a county called Mayo, which is in a province
  called Connacht. Claremorris is often known to
  be the Heart of the West as it is situated
  approximately in the heart/middle of the West of
  Ireland.
• Claremorris is one of the fastest growing towns
  in the West of Ireland and it is definitely being
  recognised as it is a selected location for the
  governments decentralisation plan/programme and
  a lot of big companies and businesses have moved
  here. For example, Aldi has moved here within the
  last 18 months and a huge Tesco store has opened
  here very recently-within the last few months.
• There are two primary schools in town-one for
  boys and one for girls. You start primary school
  when you are 5 years of age and normally you
  would finish when you are 12 years old. From
  Junior infants to 6th class.
• There are also two secondary schools in
  town-again there is one for boys and one for
  girls. On average, you would start secondary
  school when you are 12 or 13 and you would finish
  when you are 17,18 or 19-as Transition Year is
  not compulsory. 1st year to 6th year/Leaving
  Cert.

Amenities in Claremorris

• Claremorris has a magical mixture of natural
  amenities like drumlins, eskers, woods and lakes.
  Claremorris also has a lot of many top class
  leisure facilities. Some of these are athletics
  tracks, badminton courts, fishing ,GAA (Gaelic
  football-Gaelic Athletic Association), soccer,
  golf, basketball, handball, horse riding,
  snooker, squash, swimming, water polo and tennis.
  The majority of the activities listed have clubs
  or teams.
• Claremorris also has Mc Mahon Park where you
  can walk and let your children play in the
  playground, and beside Mc Mahon Park is Clare
  Lake which locals call The Lake!! You can also
  go fishing in Lough na Nannagh, Lough Carra and
  Lough Mask, which are all in close proximity of
  Claremorris.
• The town also hosts the Claremorris Open Art
  Exhibition and annual Drama and Summer Festivals.

The Population of Claremorris

• The population of Claremorris has grown very
  steadily over the last number of years. According
  to official censuses, in 1996 Claremorris had a
  population of 1,914, in 2002 Claremorris had a
  population of 2,101, in 2006 Claremorris had a
  population of about 2,595 and today it is
  estimated that Claremorris has a population of
  approximately 3,170 people. It is also estimated
  that Claremorris has a population of
  approximately 14,156 in its rural hinterland.
