Title: Manufacturing
1Manufacturing
2Background
- Manufacturing involves creating or modifying
physical objects that are not found in one
location. - Objects that are fixed to a site like buildings
and roads are considered construction.
3Background
- Manufacturing has evolved over many years.
- Humans producing enough of a product for their
own personal use. - Increased quantities to trade
- Workers in factories producing large quantities
of items. - Automation replaces workers to reduce costs and
increase productivity

6Stock Manufacture
- Definition
- When a product is manufactured based on
pre-established specifications.
7Custom Manufacture
- Definition
- When a product is manufactured based on a
customers individual specifications.
8Individual Manufacture
- Definition
- When only one product is made at a time.
- Example

10Eli Terry Sr. (April 13, 1772
February 24, 1852) was an inventor and Clockmaker
in Connecticut. He received a United States
patent for a shelf clock mechanism. He introduced
mass production to the art of clock making, which
made clocks affordable for the average American
citizen. Terry occupies an important place in the
beginnings of the development of interchangeable
parts manufacturing. Terry became one of the most
accomplished mechanics in New England during the
early part of the nineteenth century. The village
of Terryville, Connecticut is named for his son,
Eli Terry Jr.
11Steps that the Manufacturing Team Must Take to
Mass Produce a product
- The manufacturer must have a clear understanding
of the product to be made - Generate ideas
- Create Drawings
- Make a prototype
12Setting up or Tooling up
- Make a jig to mass produce the product
- Run tests to make sure that the process is
working properly - Quality Control
- Make sure that the tolerances are accurate
- Keep production area free from debris
