Title: Trash

1
Trash
  • Garbage, Waste, Refuse, Waste stream, Not usable,
No value, Disposed off, Thrown away.

2
Humans Vs Earth
  • 6 LB. of waste produced per human per day.
  • City of 1,000,000 inhabitants produces then
6,000,000 lbs. per day of trash or 3,000 tons.
  • Equivalent to 200 trailers one behind the other
    for 2 1/2 miles.
  • Disposal cost, in landfills, or tipping fees,
    average of 60 / ton or 180,000 / day.

3
Composition of Trash
  • 25 Post consumer plastics, bottles, bags,
    buckets, pans, toys.
  • 25 Papers, cartons and magazines.
  • 25 Glass and various metals.
  • 25 Organic, food, limbs, grass, dead animals.

4
Mexico City, Tokyo, New York, Hong Kong, Miami,
etc.
  • To name a few cities with over 1,000,000
    inhabitants
  • Mexico City alone with 21 million inhabitants
produces over 20,000 tons of trash per day (our
    numbers would say 63,000 tons)
  • Equivalent to 15 miles of continuous trailers.

5
Landfilling
  • Typical sanitary landfill 3,000 tons or 1 day for
a 1 million person city, occupies 8,000 square
feet and will digest contents in 30 years.
  • Mexico City will be using, 20 million square feet
per year of landfill space or 1 square mile per
year with access roads and service areas this is
    equivalent 2 sq..mi./yr..

6
More mathematics
  • 6 Billion humans on earth or the equivalent of
300 Mexico Cities will need 600 square miles per
year x 30 years 18,000 square miles landfilling
    trash each 30 yr.. Period.
  • This area is that of a small state.
  • No guarantee is given that in 30 yr.. You could
go back and use the land again.

7
No matter.
  • How do you do the mathematics, in favor or
against landfilling the truth is that in terms of
generations, it is obvious that, since the Earth
is not growing, and we the people, are growing,
    that LANDFILL area is limited.
  • THE SOLUTION IS REMANUFACTURE MOST OF THE
    MATERIALS BEING LANDFILLED.

8
How...
  • Make landscaping timbers and posts of the plastic
    waste
  • Make gravel of the glass and recuperate all
    metals
  • Make reusable rolls or finished products of the
    papers, and cartons.
  • Compost the organic
