How can I get more involved?
  • Join the PTO.
  • The PTO is an excellent opportunity for you to
    become more involved. This organization helps
    make contributions to the students, faculty, and
    staff by having different fundraisers and events
    throughout the year.

How can I get more involved?
  • Talk to your childs teacher.
  • Examples of things you can do
  • to help
  • Become a classroom helper.
  • Mentor or tutor students.
  • Work as a media center assistant or volunteer to
    read to students.
  • Volunteer to speak in a classroom or during
    career day.

What can I do to help my child?

Encourage your child to read regularly.
  • Start early reading with your child. If this is
    something you dont already do, its never too
    early to begin!
  • Make sure you have reading material.
  • Show that you value reading.

Talk with your child
  • Share conversations while traveling from place to
    place.
  • Use grocery shopping as a time to discuss prices,
    how to pick out good fruits, etc.
  • When cooking, discuss the recipe (this is also
    helpful in measurement and fractions).
  • When watching TV, talk about the characters and
    compare shows to each other.
  • While reading, stop and ask questions as you go
    along.

Monitor homework
  • Have a special place for your child to study.
  • Set a regular time for homework.
  • Remove distractions.
  • Dont expect or demand perfection.

Monitor TV viewing and video game playing
  • Limit the amount of time you let your child watch
    TV.
  • Model good TV viewing habits.
  • Watch TV with your child when you can.
  • When you cant watch TV with your child, spot
    check to ensure the show is appropriate.
  • Limit the amount of time your child plays video
    games and make sure they are rated appropriately
    for age.

Encourage your child to use the library.
  • Introduce your child to the library as early as
    possible.
  • Allow your child to get his own library card.
  • Teach your child the rules of the library.
  • Libraries often have story time. Attend if
    possible.

Help your child to use the Internet effectively
and properly
  • Spend time online with your child.
  • If you do not have Internet at home, visit the
    library to get online.
  • Teach your child appropriate websites to view.
  • Monitor the amount of time your child spends
    online.

Encourage your child to be responsible and work
independently.
  • Establish rules.
  • Make it clear that your child is responsible for
    what he does.
  • Work with your child to create reasonable jobs to
    be completed at home.
  • Make your child responsible for getting ready in
    the morning.
  • Monitor what your child does after school, in the
    evenings, and on the weekends.

Encourage active learning
  • Ask and answer questions, problem solve, and
    explore interests.
  • Listen to your childs ideas and respond to them.
