What Are They?
  • Competencies describe the behaviours or actions
    we need to take to successfully perform in our
    own roles

  • Focussed on views and needs of clients ensuring a
    quality led effective service delivery

  • Effective
  • Show respect and sensitivity at all times,
    treating people as individuals
  • Ineffective
  • Is not concerned about the quality of the service
    provided

Why have them?
  • Vision and aims of Depaul Trust need to be at the
    core of our activities
  • How we behave and function will directly affect
    the quality of our service provision

We hope they will
  • Set clear guidelines on expected areas and levels
    of performance
  • And provide a useful toolkit to aid
    self-development

What happens next
  • Start to use the framework within the annual
    appraisal process
  • After this HR will evaluate both the framework
    and the new Joint Annual Review Form

New JAR Form
  • Has a section where you will need to refer to the
    appropriate competency framework.
  • Try to focus on at least one or two competencies
    from each section.

  • Agree before the appraisal meeting which
    competencies you will examine during the meeting
  • The framework is comprehensive so you will need
    to prioritise according to the needs of each role

During the appraisal
  • Try to explore describe where performance
    matches the definitions and examples of
    behaviours where they dont.
  • Then agree and identify any key development needs
    and objectives.

  • Right and responsibilities
  • Equity, diversity and rights

  • An objective setting plan which covers-
  • Operational Objectives
  • Competency Development aims
  • Learning Development aims
  • Please ensure you complete this and the summary

  • to
  • Human Resources

After the appraisal
  • Please dont just forget about the competencies
    framework

But do
  • Continue to examine the framework during
    supervisions throughout the year.
  • Use the framework to develop and support people
    by identifying standards of behaviour
