  • Endangered Species are plants or animals that are
in danger of extinction (dying out)
  • Over 8,300 and 7,200 animal species around the
    world are threatened with extinction

3
  • The main cause of extinction or endangerment is
    habitat destruction, commercial exploitation
(such as plant collecting, hunting, and trade in
    animal parts)

4
coloured crocodile skin
  • Since the 1600s the rate of extinction has
increased rapidly because of human population
    growth and human resource consumption
  • a stuffed crocodile

5
  • Man has always been a hunter. He still is. But
many modern hunters don't just kill for food -
they kill for profit. That's why so many rare and
protected animals are still dying. Hunters like
    these are called poachers.

6
The aims of our project
  1. find out rare species of animals
  2. learn why people kill animals
  3. invite people to reflect on the life of animals

7
Animals are in danger
  • All species of tiger are endangered.
  • There are two reasons why tigers are endangered

.
illegal killing
habitat loss
8
Tigers are killed
  • to make rugs
  • coats out of their skins
  • medicines made from tiger parts
  • 100 years ago 50,000 to 80,000 tigers in India
  • Today there only 5,000 or fewer tigers

9
Tigers and many other endangered species are
killed illegally for their skins and body parts.
Products made from rare wild animals such as
spotted cats, tigers, rhinos, and elephants are
still sold illegally.
10
  • In 1981 there were 15,000 black rhinos in Africa.
Today, because of illegal hunting, that number is
    4,500

But what about the other 15 of furs?
  • Well -these still come from wild animals. Hunters
catch most of them in traps. These are made of
metal and are very sharp. Most animals caught in
    traps die very slowly.

14
The USA traps over 20 million animals every year
15
Russian people use drugs to kill rare animals

Are human beings the lords of the world?!?!
25
  • People should create reserves, breed animals to
keep animals. We must urge people not
    to kill animals!!

26
On our planet, there are so few animals to kill
27
What can we do to save the animals?
  • educate people about the importance of animals
  • should stop killing animals for food, for fur,
    for safety or for fun
  • should also refuse to buy ivory products, fur
    coats, and leather products
  • punish those who kill protected species.
