  • Over 60 sections in US
  • 6 international sections
  • Protect the health and safety of workers and the
    community
  • Increase knowledge of industrial hygiene and
    occupational health and safety in a specific
    region
  • Promote the profession and cooperate with
    government, industrial, educational, and other
    professional bodies
  • Share a concern about the health of workers
    worldwide as well as the special concerns of your
    regional area.

Local Section Council
  • Represent all sections.
  • Voice of the local section to the AIHA board of
    directors.
  • Annual meeting of section presidents (or
    designee).
  • Support for local sections through network
    opportunities, communication, workshops.

  • Explore ways to create a more cohesive
    National/Local Section structure in an effort to
    establish a new, future-focused path for AIHA as
    an organization

  • Create a more effective, productive relationship
    between Local Sections and AIHA
  • More clearly define the relationship and
    expectations between Local Sections and AIHA
  • Review and reprioritize remaining recommendations
    from the 2006 Local Section Project

Regional Representatives
  • Task force met at AIHA headquarters in spring.
  • Goal- Discuss methods to strengthen
    communications between national AIHA and local
    sections.
  • Board of directors adopted recommendation for
    creation of 8 regional representative roles .

LSRR Roles and Responsibilities
  • Work closely with LSC chair and board
    representative
  • And local section presidents to
  • Facilitate open lines of communication about
    local section activities as well as LSC and AIHA
    BOD activities as well as between local sections
    in geographic area. .
  • Provide coaching to local section presidents on
    effective leadership.
  • Track metrics of each local section council with
    respect to size, number of meetings, officers,
    etc.
  • Provide local sections with subject matter
    speaker information and share their information
    through the Speakers Bureau.

Duties
  • Help strengthen local sections in
  • Recruiting new members
  • Attracting young career professionals
  • Leadership
  • Communication and information about national and
    local AIHA activities
  • Involvement in State and Federal government.

Project Teams
  • Each LSRR is requested to join one of the
    following project teams
  • Speakers Bureau - assist local sections in
    conferences/events.
  • Metrics - for measuring continuous improvement.
  • Tool Box - assist section officers in planning,
    recruiting, sharing best practices, etc.

Local Section Council Structure
  • Regional representatives will report up through
    the chair of the LSC.
  • Regional representatives will also work directly
    with their assigned board coordinator to assist
    the local sections
  • Student sections will report up through the vice
    chair.
  • The LSC reports up to the AIHA board of directors.

Travel to Local Sections
  • How often am I expected to visit local section
    meetings?
  • Once to each local section per three year term,
    or Board Coordinator may attend in your place
    (Note that LS may decline visit)
  • How will I be reimbursed for travel?
  • Costs will be shared between AIHA national and
    the local section (see examples on next page)
