• Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck tells the
  story of two ranch-hands traveling across America
  during the Great Depression. George and Lennies
  dream of owning their own land soon inspires a
  number of characters living on the ranch and the
  theme of dreams quickly becomes clear. The novel
  explores a range of issues including sexism,
  ageism and racism and the author cleverly uses
  characters from these minority groups in order to
  demonstrate how they too contribute to the theme
  of dreams.
