  • The Bible is filled with stories about Egypts
    relationship with Gods people.
  • Egypt played varying roles in the lives of Bible
    figures. It spans Genesis to the gospel.
  • At times Egypts played the oppressor, other
    times it was a place of refuge.

    Genesis 37 50.

Josephs Exile
  • It all began with a fathers love which led to
    siblings' jealousy.
  • Josephs brothers knew that Joseph was his
    fathers favorite and this angered them.
  • They plotted to get rid of Joseph and finally
    decided to sell him into slavery in Egypt.
  • In Egypt, Joseph was sold to Potiphar, an
    official of Pharaoh but was later thrown into
    prison because he was falsely accused by
    Potiphars wife.
  • Joseph faith in the Creator God kept him during
    these difficult times.

The Dream
  • Pharaoh had a dream and needed it to be
    interpreted.
  • No one in his courts could interpret the dream
    not the magicians, nor the wise men.
  • Joseph was the only one able to interpret the
    Pharaohs dream.
  • As a result, Pharaoh made Joseph a ruler in
    Egypt.

Jacobs Sojourn
  • Jacob mourned his son for years and was not
    comforted.
  • When famine struck the land, the family looked to
    Egypt for refuge.
  • They discovered that Joseph was alive and has
    risen from slave to ruler. He was now second in
    command to Pharaoh.
  • Jacob was overjoyed to reunite with his son.
  • Jacob moved to Egypt with his family due to the
    famine.

Moses
  • Many generations passed and a new pharaoh ruled.
  • Egypt became a place of captivity for Jacobs
    descendants, the Israelites.
  • Moses was born into this scenario but from birth,
    the protecting hand of God was evident in his
    life.
  • Moses grew up in Pharaohs house but when he was
    grown, he refused the pleasures of Egypt and
    chose to suffer with Gods people.
  • God used him to deliver his people out of Egypt.

Pharaohs Rebellion
  • Pharaoh refused to let Gods people go.
  • God allowed a series of 10 plagues to assail the
    Egyptians.
  • Pharaoh made things more difficult for the
    Israelites after each of the first 9 plagues.

The Exodus
  • When the tenth plague struck, Pharaoh was eager
    to let Gods people go.
  • The tenth plague took the life of the first born
    son of the Egyptians including Pharaohs first
    born son.
  • Under the leadership of Moses, God brought Israel
    out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
