4VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL TRANSPORT SYSTEMS
Responsible for the delivering materials and
personnel throughout the Medical Center.
Includes elevators, dumbwaiters, and the
pneumatic tube system.
5ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
NORMAL DISTRIUTION IS CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO
CPL EMERGENCY DISTRIBUTION is also connected
directly to CPL, but in the event of a power
loss, is fed within 10 seconds by the emergency
generator. Electrical light switches and
receptacles connected to the generator are
colored RED Critical equipment needs to be
plugged into Red Outlets

7If a person has been shocked
- Do the following
- Turn off power immediately
- Remove the person using a non-conductive aid
(i.e. piece of wood or plastic) - If not breathing or the heart has stopped begin
CPR.

- Grounding The 3-prong plug is required at NHHN
unless the piece of equipment is double
insulated. - Grounding Creates
- A low resistant path for the current
- Protection against shock
- A connection to the earth

- Description
- Limited or total loss of telephones, pagers
and/or overhead paging system. - Other equipment to use in this emergency
- Two way radios
- Pay telephones
- Cellular telephones (keep at least 10 ft. away
from medical equipment).
10MEDICAL GASES
Medical Gases include Oxygen Medical
Air Nitrogen Nitrous Oxide Carbon Dioxide
11Cylinder Safety
- Do not carry cylinders by neck
- Secure large cylinders to wall or in cart
- Segregate full and empty cylinders
- Use Chain to secure tanks
- Use appropriate
- cylinder holders
12Oxygen Safety
- Know that the charge nurse or supervisor has
the authority to shut off oxygen in an emergency. - Dont place oxygen cylinders below beds. They
can break the bed or potentially become missiles. - Dont place cylinders at the patients legs in a
stretcher or bed. They could fall off!!
