2What is AKC Disaster Relief?
- AKC Pet Disaster Relief is a trailer stocked with
critical supplies that helps local Emergency
Management provide animal care services during
the first critical hours following a disaster
the time before FEMA support and services are
deployed. - Deployment of disaster relief trailers will help
put an end to post-disaster tragedies have
historically affected pet owners, such as
putting themselves in harms way to save a
beloved pet, or even losing a family pet during a
disaster. - We want every community to be prepared to help
people and their pets for any disaster and its
aftermath. - That is why AKC Reunite is partnering with local
AKC Clubs and their affiliates to raise funds to
help supply AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailers to
local Emergency Management.
3What AKC Reunite hopes to accomplish?
- Better community preparedness
- More successful local disaster response
- Heightened awareness of the importance of
disaster preparedness for their pets - Peace of mind for pet owners

10Plans need to be in place
- Regardless of the size or budget of a community,
local Emergency Management is now required by law
to prepare and care for its citizens including
plans to accommodate people with their pets in
the event of a disaster. - To successfully meet these newer legal
requirements, government organizations cannot
alone meet the challenges posed by a
catastrophe. - AKC Pet Disaster Relief can be a key component to
your local Emergency Managements disaster
planning efforts.
11Trailers are already being deployed!
- Just wanted to thank AKC Reunite and AKC for all
your hard work and commitment to North Carolina
Emergency Programs and to North Carolina Animal
Services through your funding and sponsorship of
the mobile equipment trailer program. I am
convinced that this in itself is one of the most
thought out service pieces in our entire resource
list and offers a very fluid degree of service to
our entire state. From an Animal Services
perspective it just adds many more avenues of
service and response. On behalf of myself and
NCARCA, our state wide Animal Services
organization we thank you for your vision and
generosity in partnering with us on this program.
Thank you again and I look forward to working
with you in the future. -

Relief to your local Emergency Management. - Finding our Emergency Management Contact is a
simple web search GOOGLE Our State Name

Emergency Management contacts in our local area.
-
- Fundraising resources
- The more we raise, the larger our Clubs logo
will be featured on the trailer - A minimum Club donation of 1,000 is required for
our logo to be featured - Each trailer costs approximately 22,000. We
need to raise at least 12,000 to secure a
trailer for our community. AKC Reunite and
potentially other National Clubs will fund the
remaining 10,000. If we ONLY want our Club and
AKC/AKC Reunite on the trailer, we need to raise
19,500. -
13Working with Local Emergency Management QA
- Tell me more about Local Emergency Management?
- Local Emergency Management is often handled at
the county level or regional area within a
state. It is the responsibility of Local
Emergency Management to provide support and
leadership in preparedness, response, recovery
and mitigation to their local, business and
volunteer partners. Regardless of the size or
budget of a community, the responsibility to
prepare and care for its citizens
including plans to accommodate people with their
pets in the event of a disaster is required by
law. - Why would my Local Emergency Management want or
need a trailer? - Since Hurricane Katrina a series of laws
(including the 2006 Federal PETS Act), have been
passed that require local emergency management
to plan for caring for people and their pets in
the event of a disaster. AKC Pet Disaster
Relief provides local municipalities with an
invaluable resource to meet these requirements
and to shelter pets during disasters.
14Working with Emergency Management QA contd
What does my Local Emergency Management need to
do to get a trailer? Local Emergency Management
needs to agree to store, maintain and insure the
trailer. They are also required to showcase the
trailer in their community at public events like
County Fairs and Parades and other festivals to
educate citizens about disaster preparedness for
pets. More information can be found in the
AGREEMENT found at www.akcreunite.org/relief. Is
my Club responsible for the trailer after it is
given to Local Emergency Management? No. The
Local Emergency Management Team will take
possession of the trailer and per the AGREEMENT
terms, they will assume insurance requirements,
as well as proper storage and maintenance of
trailer and its contents.
15What can Our Club do to help?

depository for our members including friends and
family and all associated local counties and
pet related businesses to donate. - Our Club can educate and promote this worthy
cause to it members through a direct mail
campaign and through the newsletter plus meeting
reminders. - Our Club can educate and promote this worthy
cause to all animal related businesses and
associations in the counties we serve. - Our Club can even join with other clubs, so at a
minimum we have one of these units nearby for
counties to share. - AKC Reunite is a 501(c)3 non profit
organization. Donations are tax deductible and
accepted online or via the AKC Pet Disaster
Relief Donation Form.
If you are a pet lover concerned about the
