  specializes in audio and video accessories and
  supplies.

Opening the doors

• Business was started by the Vazquez family.
• Alonzo worked as an engineer in CD and DVD
  production for several years.
• Dalia worked as a manager at a major electronics
  department store for eight years.
• Their son, Al, was busy creating web sites in his
  spare time and helped produce CDs for his bands
  music.
• Dalia had the idea to launch a family business
  combining their expertise.
• The goal is to cater to audio and video
  enthusiasts, small recording studios, and major
  studios dedicated to DVD production.

• Digital Express is organized as a privately held
  corporation.
• All of the outstanding Digital Express stock is
  owned by the Vazquez family.
• Dalia is the manager and is the only family
  member involved in the day-to-day operations of
  the business.

  special requests from their customers.
• Clerks and employees are instructed to special
  order a vast range of equipment if its not in
  stock.
• Store does heavy volume in blank CDs, DVDs and
  equipment.
• Dalia relies heavily on her background as a
  marketing specialist. She deals with brand
  merchandisers for placement of the product in her
  store, sales promotions, and partnered direct
  mailing.
• She also advertises in local newspapers

• There are recording studios, a shopping mall, and
  public and private schools located within walking
  distance of the store.

Your job

• Youve just been hired to keep the accounting
  records for Digital Express.
• As youve learned, this is a retail business
  owned by the Vazquez family. It is a closely held
  corporation.
• You are beginning work on May 27, 2009. Business
  transactions up to this date were recorded and
  posted by the former clerk, Nichole Chappell.

• Analyzing source documents for processing
• Journalizing and posting business transactions in
  the appropriate journals and ledgers.
• Writing checks
• Preparing deposit slips
• Reconciling the bank statements
• Preparing monthly trial balances
• Preparing end-of-fiscal period work
