Literary Elements in Lobs Girl
  • Foreshadowing
  • Flashback

14
Consider whether something good or bad is about
to happen on the bus and why you think so.
  • The bus ride from school began as it does every
day. Kids were yelling and laughing, and their
music was playing. Suddenly, a dark cloud passed
in front of the sun. The noise continued but at
    a slightly lower pitch.

15
Foreshadowing(Record in Reading Locker)
  • Foreshadowing is the authors use of clues to
hint at what might happen later in the story.
  • Writers use foreshadowing to build their
readers expectations and to create suspense.

16
Look for shifts in verb tenses and locate clue
words such as I remember.
  • My kitten wakes me up each morning by licking my
face. I remember when I first got Merlin at the
pet store. He looked so tiny, all curled up in
the corner of his cage. I fell in love with him
    right then and there.

17
Flashback(Record in Reading Locker)
  • A flashback is a scene within a story that
interrupts the sequence of events to relate
events that occurred in the past.

18
Your Turn!
  • Create your own example of foreshadowing and
    flashback
  • Each example should be one paragraph each
