VAN LEAR ROSE
  • One of my fondest memoriesWas sittin' on my
daddy's kneeListenin' to the stories that he
told He'd pull out that old photographLike a
treasured memory from the past And say
childThis here's the Van Lear RoseOh how it
would bring a smile When he talked about her big
blue eyesAnd how her beauty ran down to her
soulShe'd walk across the coal miner's yard
Them miner's would yell loud and hard and
they'd dream of who would holdThe Van Lear Rose
  • (Chorus)She was the belle of Johnson
CountyOhio river to Big SandyA beauty to behold
like a diamond in the coalAll the miner's they
would gather 'round Talk about the man that came
to townRight under their nose Stole the heart
    of the Van Lear Rose
  • Now the Van Lear Rose could've had her
pickAnd all the fellers figured richUntil this
poor boy caught her eyeHis buddies would all
laugh and sayYour dreamin' boy she'll never look
your wayYou'll never ever hold the Van Lear
    Rose(Chours)Then one night in mid
JulyUnderneath that ol' blue Kentucky skyWell,
that poor boy won that beauty's heartThen my
daddy would look at my mommy and smileAs he
brushed the hair back from my eyes and he'd
sayYour mamaShe's the Van Lear Rose

The Ballad of Curtis Loew
  • Well I used to wake the morning before the
    rooster crowed
  • Searching for soda bottles to get myself some
doughBrought 'em down to the corner, down to the
country storeCash 'em in and give my money to a
man named Curtis LoewOld Curt was a black man
with white curly hairWhen he had a fifth of wine
he did not have a careHe used to own an old
dobro, used to play it across his kneeI'd give
old Curt my money, he'd play all day for mePlay
me a song Curtis Loew, Curtis LoewI got your
drinking money, tune up your dobroPeople said he
was useless, them people are the fools'Cause
Curtis Loew was the finest picker to ever play
the bluesHe looked to be sixty, and maybe I was
tenMama used to whoop me but I'd go see him
againI'd clap my hands, stomp my feets, try to
stay in timeHe'd play me a song or twoThen take
another drink of winePlay me a song Curtis
Loew, Curtis LoewI got your drinking money, tune
up your dobroPeople said he was useless, them
people are the fools'Cause Curtis Loew was the
finest picker to ever play the bluesOn the day
old Curtis died, nobody came to prayOl' preacher
said some words, and they chunked him in the
clayBut he lived a lifetime playin' the black
man's bluesAnd on the day he lost his life,
that's all he had to losePlay me a song Curtis
Loew, Hey Curtis LoewI wish that you was here so
everyone would knowPeople said you was useless,
them people all are fools'Cause Curtis you're
the finest picker to ever play the blues

The Lighthouse Tale
  • I am a lighthouse, worn by the weather and the
waves. I keep my lamp lit, to warn the sailors
on their way. I'll tell a story, paint you a
picture from my past. I was so happy, but joy in
this life seldom lasts. I had a keeper, he
helped me warn the ships at sea. We had grown
closer, 'till his joy meant everything to me.
And he was to marry, a girl who shone with
beauty and light. And they loved each other, and
with me watched the sunsets into night.
ChorusAnd the waves crashing around me, the
sand slips out to sea. And the winds that blow
remind me, of what has been, and what can never
be. She'd had to leave us, my keeper he prayed
for a safe return. But when the night came, the
weather to a raging storm had turned. He
watched her ship fight, but in vain against the
wild and terrible wave. In me so helpless, as
dashed against the rock she met her end.
ChorusThen on the next day, my keeper found
her washed up on the SHORE. He kissed her cold
face, that they'd be together soon he'd swore.
I saw him crying, watched as he buried her in
the sand. And then he climbed my tower, and off
of the edge of me he ran. ChorusI am a
lighthouse, worn by the weather and the waves.
And though I am empty, I still warn the sailors
    on their way.

that lullaby of a midnight trainIt sings to me
and it sounds familiar(Chorus)And I can
tasteThat honeysuckle and it's still so
sweetWhen it grows wildOn the banks down at old
camp creekYeah, and it calls to me like a warm
    wind blowing(Chorus)It's where I learned
    about livingIt's where I learned about loveIt's
where I learned about working hardAnd having a
    little was just enough

where I standYou can take it or leave it, this
is meThis is who I amGive me a tin roofA front
porch and a gravel roadAnd that's home to meIt
feels like home to me(Chorus)I keep my heart

Ill Be Missing You
  • Seems like yesterday we used to rock the show I
laced the track you locked the flow So far from
hanging on the block of dough Notorious, they
got to know that! Life ain't always what it
seems to be Words can't express what you mean to
me Even though you're gone We still a team
Through your family I'll fulfill your dreams
In the future can't wait to see If you'll open
up the gates for me Reminisce sometime The
night they took my friend Try to black it out
but it plays again When it's weird feelin' hard
to conceal Can't imagine all the pain I feel
Give anything to hear half your breath I know
you still livin' your life after death CHORUS
Every step I take Every move I make Every
single day Every time I pray I'll be missing
you Thinking of the day When you went away
What a life to take What a bond to break I'll
    be missing you
  • It's kinda hard with you not around Know you're
in heaven smilin' down Watchin' us while we pray
for you Everyday we pray for you Till the day
we meet again In my heart is where I'll keep you
friend Memories give me the strength I need to
proceed Strength I need to believe My
    thoughts,Big, I just can't define Wish I could
turn back the hands of time Us in the 6 Shop
for new clothes and kicks You and me taking
flicks Making hits stages they receive you on
Still can't believe you're gone Give anything
to hear half your breath I know you still livin'
    your life after death CHORUS
  • Somebody tell me why One black morning When
this life is over I know I'll see your face

Strawberry Fields Forever
  • No one I think is in my tree, I mean it must be
high or low. That is you can't you know tune in
but it's all right. That is I think it's not too
bad.Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to
Strawberry Fields.Nothing is real and nothing to
    get hung about.Strawberry Fields
forever.Living is easy with eyes closed,
misunderstanding all you see. It's getting hard
to be someone but it all works out.It doesn't
matter much to me.Let me take you down, 'cause
I'm going to Strawberry Fields.Nothing is real
and nothing to get hung about.Strawberry Fields
forever.Always know sometimes think it's me,
    but you know I know and it's a dream.I think I
know of thee, ah yes, but it's all wrong. That is
I think I disagree.Let me take you down, 'cause
I'm going to Strawberry Fields.Nothing is real
and nothing to get hung about.Strawberry Fields
    forever.Strawberry Fields forever.Strawberry
    Fields forever.
