• The economy of Jamaica is largely dependent on
  industrial sectors like agriculture, mining,
  tourism, oil refining, sugar, cement, chemicals,
  tobacco processing, textiles, flour milling,
  processed foods and others

Climate effects

• Most people dont wear sweatshirts or coats. Hot
  all year wear shorts.
• Doesn't snow there.

  Star, Usain Bolt, Jamaican Sprinter(holds 100 m
  world record of 9.72 s), Bob Marley-musician

Immigration/Migration

• Immigration- People moved to Jamaica because of
  its beautiful weather and the ocean.
• Migration- People moved away from Jamaica because
  of the economy and bad jobs.

Transportation

• Most people in Jamaica dont even own cars. There
  are lots of taxis in the cities, but they are
  very expensive and most people cant afford them.
  There are 35 or more airports in Jamaica. There
  are about 8 television stations and 25 radio
  station in Jamaica.

• Dining Etiquette
• . Table manners are relatively informal.
• . The more formal the occasion, the more strict
  the protocol.
• . When in doubt, watch what others are doing and
  emulate their behavior.
• . Do not sit down until you are invited to and
  told where to sit.
• . Table manners are Continental -- the fork is
  held in the left hand and the knife in the right
  while eating.
• . Meals are often served buffet-style.
• . Do not begin eating until the host invites you
  to start.
• . When not eating, it is acceptable to keep your
  hands in your lap.
• Always use utensils to eat.
• . It is considered polite to finish everything on
  your plate

• Meeting and Greeting
• . The most common greeting is the handshake with
  direct eye contact, and a warm smile.
• . Use the appropriate salutation for the time of
  day "good morning", "good afternoon", or "good
  evening".
• . Men often pat each other's shoulder or arm
  during the greeting process or while conversing.
• . Address people by their honorific title (Mr.,
  Mrs., or Miss)
• . Always wait until invited before using
  someone's first name.

• Jamaicas government includes a Parliamentary
  democracy and Constitutional monarchy

Ethnic groups and Religious groups

• Ethnic groups- the largest ethic group is African
  descent over 70 of the people, over 15
  Afro-European, 3.4 East Indian and Afro-East
  Indian, 3.2 Caucasian, 1.2 Chinese and 0.8
  Other.
• Christianity is the largest religion practiced in
  Jamaica. The second lagest religious group in
  Jamaica is Pentecostal . The third largest
  religious group is Seventh-day Adventist Church.

• Cuisine-Bananas, coffee, yam, mango, coconut
• Sports- Cricket is the national sport of Jamaica
  many Jamaicans are part of the West Indies
  cricket team. Track and field is also a big sport
  in Jamaica. Soccer is also a big sport, but there
  they call it football.

The Family

• . The Jamaican family includes a close-knit web
  of aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents.
• . Families are close and provide both emotional
  and economic support to its members.
• . The family is the most important group a person
  belongs to, and as such, it the group with whom a
  person spends most of his/her time developing and
  maintaining cordial relations

The homes in Jamaica are similar to the ones we
have in the U.S

• Clothing- The people feel comfortable in cotton
  clothes and short sleeves, and shorts.
• Music- type-reggae example- Bob Marley was the
  great reggae musician of all time in Jamaica.
• Activities- water sports, golf and tennis.
