• Getting a good education may be the most
  important thing that you can do for yourself
• Using your brain is important to your future
• Nothing in life comes easy, so you may have to
  work hard to accomplish your goals

The Key to Unlocking the Future

• Your key to the future is having an educated mind
• Get as much education as you possibly can
• Whether it is college, vocational or technical
  training, an apprenticeship, or going into the
  armed forces
• An education is one of the best investments that
  you can make

Education!!!

• Statistics have shown that a college graduate
  makes about twice as much as a high school
  graduate
• The gap seems to be widening daily
• Think an education costs too much??
• There are tons of scholarships, grants, loans,
  and student-aid options that are available

Sharpen your Mind

• There are tons of ways to expand your mind
• Reading is to the mind, what exercise is to the
  body.
• Reading is the foundation to everything else and
  doesnt cost that much

Ways to Sharpen

• Read a newspaper
• Subscribe to National Geographic
• Travel
• Observe wildlife
• Watch the Discovery Channel
• Visit a library
• Listen to the news

• Write
• Play challenging games
• Debate
• Play a game of chess
• Visit a museum
• Solve crossword puzzles
• Learn to play a musical instrument

Find your Niche

• You probably wont like everything that you study
  in school
• You can find the subjects that you do enjoy and
  build on those
• Take extra classes, check out books, and see
  movies on the topic
• Use the outside world for learning, dont depend
  only on school

Everyone isnt a Genius

• Everyone will probably have trouble in some
  classes
• Even Albert Einstein had trouble
• He failed math in school and was thought to be a
  fool for years!

Dont let School get in the Way of your Education

• Grades are important, but there is so much more
  to an education than grades
• Some people learn information for the test and
  then forget it 2 hours later
• You need to learn to retain information so that
  you can take it with you in the future

Dont Sacrifice your Education

• Dont sacrifice your education for silly reasons
• I dont need to know this
• A job
• A boyfriend/girlfriend
• A car
• Athletics pg. 221

Post-High School Educational Options

• If you are planning on going to college, the
  admissions office will look at the following
• Desire
• Standardized test scores
• Extracurricular
• Letters of recommendation
• Grade point average
• Communication skills

Do I really have what it takes??

• Even if you dont have the highest GPA or the
  highest test scores, dont give up!!!
• Dont settle for anything less than what is best
  for you
• Dont be scared off by rumors that it is SO hard
  to get into college or other schools
• If you put forth effort, you can succeed

Mental Barriers

• As you attempt to build a brain, you will need to
  overcome a few barriers
• Screentime- some tv, video games, computer can be
  okay, but too much can be harmful
• The Nerd Syndrome-some students dont want to do
  well in school because they think they will be
  uncool for being smart
• Pressure- some people think that if you do really
  well in school, it will set too high if an
  expectation

You Gotta Wanna

• In the end, the key to honing your mind will be
  your desire to learn
• You have to REALLY want it
• You have to learn to ENJOY learning
• You have to be willing to PAY the price
• If you havent paid the price to educate yourself
  so far, its never too late to start
• If you learn to think well, the future will be an
  open door of opportunity
