Title: Understanding the Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) Part B

1
Understanding the Electronic Remittance Advice
(ERA) Part B
  • For X12N Version 5010 835 Receivers

2
Overview of ERA
  • Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) is an
electronic report containing remittance data sent
from Novitas Solution, Inc. to the provider,
    billing service, or clearinghouse.
  • Once the ERA file is retrieved, the ERA may be
translated through software written by the vendor
of your choice, created in-house, or by using
Medicare Remit Easy Print (MREP) (Part B
    software).
  • Most software products, like MREP offer the
ability to print the ERA in a format very similar
to the Standard Paper Remittance (SPR).

3
Overview of ERA, continued
  • Software products may also offer the ability to
use the Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) for
accurate posting to an automated accounts
receivable system (check with software vendor for
    availability).
  • ERA will be available on a daily basis, based on
claim finalization, and is only available for 45
    days in version 5010.
  • Electronic billers will automatically be enrolled
for ERA upon the completion of the Electronic
    Data Interchange (EDI) Enrollment form.
  • Only one receiver can be sent the ERA per
    PTAN/Legacy ID.

4
Benefits of Using ERA
  • Save time by
  • No longer waiting for a Standard Paper Remittance
(SPR) to arrive in the mail.
  • Having Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA)
available for retrieval from the Novitas
    Solution, Inc. telecommunications platform 45
    days for 5010.
  • Arranging to receive your ERA directly even if
you use a billing service or clearinghouse.

5
Benefits of Using ERA, continued
  • Save money by
  • Generating less paper and lowering operating
    costs.
  • Obtaining a free Medicare software product,
Medicare Remit Easy Print (MREP), which offers
the ability to print the Electronic Remittance
Advice (ERA) in a format very similar to the hard
    copy Standard Paper Remittance (SPR).

6
