Introduction
  • Stephen Edwin King was born September 21, 1947
  • I chose Stephen King because I like his style of
    writing and have read some of his books , his
    books are really scary and I like to be on the
    edge of my seat when Im reading books.

Childhood Adolescence
  • When Stephen King was two his father Donald
    deserted the King family , when he left he said
    he was going to get a pack of cigarettes and
    never returned
  • The King family moves to Stratford, Conneticut to
    get away from the big city
  • When he was seven he into was writing , and so he
    wrote a story about a dinosaur destroying the
    world
  • Him, his brother and his cousin publish a
    newspaper called Daves Rag
  • He writes stories for various magazines and
    newspapers and is rejected by fourteen newspapers
    and magazines
  • The King family moves to Durham, Maine with their
    mom to take care of her parents
  • He writes sport stories for his high school paper
    The Lisbon Enterprise when he really wanted to
    write horror and science-fiction stories for the
    paper
  • He is finally accepted for his short story I Was
    A Teenage Grave Robber
  • He writes his first novel Getting It On and
    is rejected again by numerous publishers

Adulthood
  • He enrolls in Maine University after he is
    accepted for his first short story to study
    literature
  • While hes there he meets his future wife Tabitha
    Spruce
  • Until he can write more to get more money King
    goes to work at a laundromat and a gas station
    where he makes a dollar and twenty five cents an
    hour
  • He eventually marries Tabitha Spruce and gets a
    teaching job
  • Kings mother Ruth King dies from natural causes
  • First published novel Carrie is accepted by
    Double-Day
  • After a visit to the Stanley Hotel in 1972 he is
    inspired to write The Shining
  • Salems Lot is published by Double-Day
  • King meets Kirby Mcauley who becomes his literary
    agent
  • The Shining becomes a best-seller
  • He writes Rage under his pen name Richard
    Bachman which becomes a best-seller
  • He receives the Hugo Award for Best Non-Fiction
    for Danse Macabre
  • US magazines names King best fiction writer in
    1982
  • He buys a Maine radio station and renames it
    WZON

Adulthood
  • His Bangor newsletter Castle Rock is printed
  • Richard Bachman is revealed to be Stephen King,
    five of his books appear on the bestseller list,
    a record for any writer
  • King suffers writers block for 2 years
  • King writes 3 screenplays including, Creepshow ,
    Creepshow 2, and Maximum Overdrive they are
    horrible at the box office
  • He receives the Bram Stoker Award for Misery
  • King tours the country on his motorcycle to
    promote his longest book Insomnia
  • He promotes his book and television special
    Storm Of The Century
  • King donates 1 million dollars to build a state
    of the art baseball stadium for the children in
    Bangor because he loves baseball
  • In 1980 King buys a 129-year-old house in hopes
    of being haunted for inspiration to write a book
  • He was hit by a car in 1999 and was hospitalized
    for a couple weeks, while there he worked on The
    Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon and Hearts In
    Atlantis
  • Stephen and his wife Tabitha received the
    Norbert X award for community service
