    eight is shaped like a fan held upside down and

Hachiko Statu
  • Hachiko Statue A statue of a loyal dog named
    Hachiko. According to a famous story, the dog
    waited for his master every day in front of
    Shibuya Station, and continued to do so for years
    even after his master had passed away. It is one
    of Tokyo's most popular meeting points.

Dr. Ueno
  • Dr. Ueno was a professor at the Tokyo Imperial
    University.
  • Hachiko was his eighth dog and that is how he got
    his name.
  • Dr. Ueno stated that eight was his lucky number
    and he knew this dog was special.

Notes to teacher
  • I used two books because the book by Turner is
    great for K-2 grade and the book by Newman is
    great for 3-5.
  • This is a great slideshow to highlight items from
    the book.
  • You can create a quiz according to they type of
    readers you are presenting this to.
  • The Japanese kids website it great to use with
    the smart board and introduce the Japanese
    language. ENJOY!!!
