Teddy Boys

• The British Teddy Boy subculture is typified by
  young men wearing clothes inspired by the styles
  of the Edwardian period, which Savile Row tailors
  had tried to re-introduce after World War II.

Hippies

• The hippie subculture was originally a youth
  movement that began in the United States during
  the mid-1960s and spread around the world. The
  word hippie derives from hipster, and was
  initially used to describe people who created
  their own communities, listened to psychedelic
  rock, embraced the sexual revolution, and used
  drugs such as cannabis and LSD to explore
  alternative states of consciousness.

• The VW Bus became known as a counterculture and
  hippie symbol, and many buses were repainted with
  graphics and/or custom paint jobs these were
  predecessors to the modern-day art car. A peace
  symbol often replaced the Volkswagen logo. Many
  hippies favored hitchhiking as a primary mode of
  transport because it was economical,
  environmentally friendly, and a way to meet new
  people.

Punks

• The punk subculture is a youth movement based
  around punk rock. Punk first emerged from the
  rock music scene in the United States and the
  United Kingdom in the mid-1970s. Since then, the
  punk movement has spread around the world and
  developed into a number of different forms with
  much regional variation. Punk culture encompasses
  certain styles of music, ideology, fashion,
  visual art, dance, literature, and film. Punks
  tend to live a certain lifestyle and share a
  sense of community with one another.

Rap and Hip-Hop

• Hip hop music is a musical genre typically
  consisting of a rhythmic vocal style called rap
  which is accompanied with backing beats. Hip hop
  music is part of hip hop culture, which began in
  the Bronx, in New York City in the 1970s,
  predominantly among African Americans and Latin
  Americans. The term rap music is often used
  synonymously with hip hop music.

  1972), known by his primary stage name Eminem, or
  by his alter ego Slim Shady, is an American
  rapper, record producer and actor.

• Tupac Amaru Shakur (June 16, 1971 September 13,
  1996), also known by his stage names 2Pac (or
  simply Pac) and Makaveli, was an American rapper.
  In addition to his status as a top-selling
  recording artist, Shakur was a promising actor
  and a social activist. Most of Shakur's songs are
  about growing up amid violence and hardship in
  ghettos, racism, problems in society and
  conflicts with other rappers. Shakur's work is
  known for advocating political, economic, social
  and racial equality. Shakur was initially a
  roadie and backup dancer for the alternative hip
  hop group Digital Underground

EMO

• Today emo is commonly tied to both music and
  fashion as well as an inspiration toward the emo
  subculture, and the term "emo" is sometimes
  stereotyped with tight jeans on males and females
  alike, long fringe (bangs) brushed to one side of
  the face or over one or both eyes, dyed black,
  straight hair, tight t-shirts (usually
  short-sleeved) which often bear the names of emo
  bands (or other designer shirts), studded belts,
  belt buckles, canvas sneakers or skate shoes or
  other black shoes and thick, black horn-rimmed
  glasses. In recent years the popular media have
  associated emo with a stereotype that includes
  being emotional, sensitive, shy, introverted, or
  angst-ridden. It is also associated with
  depression, self-injury, and suicide.
