1Science GCSE
There are three options of science GCSE that your
child may be taking.
2Option 1 double award
The students will take 2 general science GCSEs.
Science and additional science. Science GCSE
course is one year long. It runs during year 10
- the certificates are awarded in year 11 There
is no course work but during the year the pupils
will sit an ISA exam. In June (the week before
work experience) the students will sit exams in
chemistry, biology and physics giving them 1 GCSE.

Additional Science GCSE course is one year long.
It runs during year 11 . Likewise there is no
course work but during the year the pupils will
sit an ISA exam. In June the students will sit
exams in chemistry, biology and physics giving
them a second GCSE.
4So what are ISA s?
An Isa is an Investigative Skills
Assessment. Pupils will complete a practical in
class and the do a 45 minute exam based on that
work
5Option 2 Triple award
If you child is taking this option they will have
started it in year 9. The students will take 3
science GCSEs. In separate chemistry, biology and
physics. This is a three year course. There is
no course work but during the year the pupils
will sit an ISA exam.
6GCSE
Please be aware if your child is doing double
or triple award science they MAY be required to
sit an exam on the summer teacher training days
in June Students will be entered for higher or
foundation papers based on their internal school
exams. This means every test will matter and
students need to prepare properly for them.
7Option 3 OCR nationals
If you child is taking this option you will
have already had a letter on this. OCR Nationals
Science Level 2 SUCCESS WITHOUT
EXAMS
