10Functional Skills
- All learners must meet the standards for
Functional Skills in English, Mathematics and ICT
at the same level of Diploma they are taking. - Level 3 Diploma has this requirement at level 2
Functional Skills and there is no compensation
against this need for this first year.
11Project
- Learners choose an area of research and will then
manage, develop, realise and review their Project - Level 1 or 2 Projects consist of 60 GLH
- Extended Project (L3) consists of 120 GLH
- The specification is based on four main criteria
- Select, plan and carry out a project or task to
achieve agreed objectives - Use resources to achieve agreed objectives
- Develop and realise using a range of skills
- Review and evaluate outcomes.
- All Projects are internally supervised and
teacher assessed and externally moderated by
Edexcel

- Level 1
- Unit 1, Introducing the Engineering World (30
GLH) External assessment consist of summative
multiple choice examination The assessment will
consist of 30 questions. Each question will have
four possible options, and all questions are to
be attempted within the time of - 1 hour - Level 2
- Unit 8 Exploring Engineering Innovation,
Enterprise and Technological Advancements (60
glh) External assessment consist of a short
answer 90 minute external examination based on a
case study of an engineering product or service.
The case study will be issued to the learners
prior to the examination to enable sufficient
research to be undertaken. Detailed guidance will
be given with the case study.

- Level 3
- Unit 1, Investigating Engineering Business and
the Environment (60 GLH ). Externally assessed by
means of a written paper containing multiple
choice questions, short answer questions and long
answer questions, assessment under formal
examination conditions and must be completed
within a time of 90 minutes - Unit 8, Mathematical Techniques and Applications
for Engineers (60 GLH). Externally assessed by
means of a written paper containing about six
compulsory questions the assessment will be under
formal examination conditions and must be
completed within a time of 2 hours - See the
