  • 2nd Chronicles 2616- 20
  • But when he was strong his heart was lifted up,
to his destruction, for he transgressed against
the Lord his God by entering the temple of the
Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense. So
Azariah the priest went in after him, and with
him were eighty priests of the Lord - valiant
men. And they withstood King Uzziah, and said to
him, It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense
to the Lord, but for the priests, the sons of
Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Get
out of the sanctuary, for you have trespassed!
You shall have no honor from the Lord God. Then
Uzziah became furious and he had a censer in his
hand to burn incense. And while he was angry with
the priests, leprosy broke out on his forehead,
before the priests in the house of the Lord,
beside the incense altar. And Azariah the chief
priest and all the priests looked at him, and
there, on his forehead, he was leprous so they
thrust him out of that place. Indeed he also
hurried to get out, because the Lord had struck
    him.

How Can We Become Humble?
  • Humility can be learned and practiced
  • Colossians 312
  • Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and
beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness,
    humility, meekness, longsuffering
  • Four aspects to developing humility

9
How Can We Become Humble?
  • Realize achievement comes by God, not by self
  • James 117
  • Every good gift and every perfect gift is from
above, and comes down from the Father of lights
  • Romans 1136
  • For of Him and through Him and to Him are all
things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.
  • 1st Corinthians 47
  • For who makes you differ from another? And what
do you have that you did not receive? Now if you
did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you
    had not received it?

10
How Can We Become Humble?
  • Be thankful to God
  • 1st Thessalonians 51618
  • Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in
everything give thanks for this is the will of
God in Christ Jesus for you.
  • Colossians 317
  • And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in
the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God
    the Father through Him.
  • Hebrews 1315
  • Therefore by Him let us continually offer the
sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of
our lips, giving thanks to His name.
  • Ephesians 518,20
  • be filled with the Spirit giving thanks
always for all things to God the Father in the
name of our Lord Jesus Christ .

11
How Can We Become Humble?
  • Love and respect others
  • Matthew 545
  • for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on
the good, and sends rain on the just and on the
    unjust.
  • 1st Corinthians 1218-26
  • But now God has set the members, each one of
them, in the body just as He pleased. And if
they were all one member, where would the body
be? But now indeed there are many members, yet
one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, I
have no need of you nor again the head to the
feet, I have no need of you. No, much rather,
those members of the body which seem to be weaker
are necessary. And those members of the body
which we think to be less honorable, on these we
bestow greater honor and our unpresentable parts
have greater modesty, but our presentable parts
have no need. But God composed the body, having
given greater honor to that part which lacks it,
that there should be no schism in the body, but
that the members should have the same care for
one another. And if one member suffers, all the
members suffer with it or if one member is
honored, all the members rejoice with it.

12
How Can We Become Humble?
  • Become a servant to others
  • John 1312-17
  • So when He had washed their feet, taken His
garments, and sat down again, He said to them,
Do you know what I have done to you? You call
Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I
am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have
washed your feet, you also ought to wash one
anothers feet. For I have given you an example,
that you should do as I have done to you. Most
assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater
than his master nor is he who is sent greater
than he who sent him. If you know these things,
blessed are you if you do them.
