a short bolt with a hexagon head with either
coarse, fine, or metric thread.

7Tool ID 307C Grade 8 Bolt
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
- Hardened bolt used where high tensile strength is
required. 6 markings on the head.
Home
8Tool ID 308 Carriage Bolts
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used on a wide range of farm equipment. The head
is oval shaped with a square neck. This bolt is
used primarily in wood where the neck sinks into
the wood. Never use a washer under the head.
Home
9Tool ID 309 Eye Bolts
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used primarily for lifting heavy object or
anchoring cables. Its has an eye on one end and
coarse or fine threads on the other.
Home
10Tool ID 310 Lag Bolt
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used to anchor metal or wood pieces to walls, and
to anchor material to concrete provided a hole is
bored and an expansion shield is put into the
hole. The bolt has a square head with a tapered
wood screw on the other end. Sometimes referred
to as a Lag Screw.
Home
11Tool ID 311 Machine Bolt
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used in places where it is desired to hold the
head of the bolt with a wrench. It is found on
almost all types of farm equipment. The head and
nut may be square or hexagon shaped.
Home
12Tool ID 312 Plow Bolt
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used on the wearing parts of the plow bottom and
in many other jobs requiring a head that fits
flush with the surface. The head is tapered or
countersunk. The base of the head is keyed or
tapered square to lock itself into the metal. No
wrench is necessary to hold the bolt head.
Home
13Tool ID 313 Stove Bolt
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used to fasten materials of thin gauge metal to
wood. Most common sizes are 3/16 and ¼ inch in
diameter and 1/
Home
14Tool ID 314 Toggle Bolt
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used to fasten materials to hollow walls or into
hollow tile where the nut cannot be reached. It
is similar to the stove bolt but has a trunion
nut with two wings and a spring. The wings are
closed as they are passed through a hole into the
hollow, where the spring causes the wings to
open. When the screw is tightened a firm
anchorage is made.
Home
15Tool ID 315 Screw Hook
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used for attaching or hanging items to walls.
This screw has a screw thread on one end and a
hook on the other. Can be screw into wood walls
or concrete masonry when pre-drilled and a
plastic or lead anchor is used.

16Tool ID 316 Castellated Hex Nut
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used on tractors, farm machinery and automobiles,
where safety is essential. It is hexagon in
shape with a slotted castle-like top for a cotter
pin and adapted to 6 and 12 point wrenches. It
usually has NF threads.
Home
17Tool ID 317 Slotted Hex Nut
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used on farm machinery, tractors, trucks and
automobiles. It is slotted for a cotter pin
where safety is required. It differs from the
castellated nut in that there is no stepped-in
castle-like top.
Home
18Tool ID 318 Hex Nut
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used on tractors, farm machinery, trucks, and
automobiles. The hex nut is used because it
will fit into places of close tolerance and is
adapted to socket wrenches for speeding up work.
It may have NC, NF, or metric threads.
Home
19Tool ID 319 Square Nut
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used on farm implements with carriage bolts,
machine bolts, stove bolts and plow bolts.
Home
20Tool ID 320 Wing Nut
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used on bolts which need adjusting or changing
from time to time. The nut has wing-like finger
grips used for tightening. No wrench is required.
Home
21Tool ID 321 Self-Locking Nut
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used in machinery and equipment. No lock washer
is required as the top portion of the nut grasps
the threads and prevents the nut from turning off
due to vibration. There are basically three
types of self-locking nuts. 1. Fiber-lock (a
hole is drilled in the side of the nut and a
fiber or nylon plug is pressed in the hole), when
the nut is tightened on the bolt the plug bites
into the threads preventing the nut from backing
off. 2. Deformed-nut, the top of which is oval
shaped. When tightened onto the threads of the
bolt the out of round portion of the nut bites
into the threads of the bolt preventing it from
backing off. 3. Scored-thread type. The top
two or three threads in the nut are scored. When
tightened on a bolt the scored threads bite into
the threads of the bolt preventing it from
backing off.

22Tool ID 322 Rivet Set
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used to drive rivets through sheet metal and to
form the head of the rivet. A rivet set is a
small bar of steel with a hole drilled in the end
to receive the rivet, and with a cup-like
depression for forming a round head on the rivet.

TAG 2007 PHS CA 0512
Used to fasten materials together, especially
sheet metal products where blind fastening is
necessary. They are hollow rivets made of
aluminum, steel and copper, and are available
open end and closed end. Sizes range from
1/8 to ¼ inch in diameter and 1/8 to ¾ inches in
length. A pop rivet tool is required to set the
rivet.
