10 The State Membership Team
- Our mission is to serve our State Deputy and the
Maryland Jurisdiction by working with our
assigned districts and their councils using a
team management approach towards recruitment of
new members, retention of existing members,
reactivation of inactive members and the
establishment of new councils.

- Our goal is to build and strengthen membership in
the Maryland Jurisdiction. We will accomplish
this by ensuring that the District Deputies are
actively assisting the Grand Knights in
developing an enthusiastic recruitment, retention
and reactivation program in every Council, and
through the establishment of new councils.

- Our approach is to respect the District Deputys
responsibilities and authority in the area of
membership and recruitment. We will assist the
District Deputies in accomplishing their
responsibilities and fulfilling their roles in
the areas of recruitment, retention and
reactivation.

management approach for recruiting, retention,
reactivation of inactive members, establishment
of new councils, and the promotion of members
through degrees.

- Our duties are to establish consistent contact
with District Deputies for the purpose of
assuring that each Councils Membership Team is
functioning properly in all areas, attend Chapter
meetings and attend District Deputy meetings as
requested.

- Responsible for supervision, growth, and
expansion of his Councils

retention programs by - Helping Councils to establish an active, year
round recruitment program in addition to
conducting membership blitzes - Identify new council locations

Membership Team Chairmen - Work with each Grand Knight to accomplish his
membership goals - Ensure each Councils Membership Team is
functioning properly

- Monitor each Councils retention and
reactivation programs

- There is a 75 Retention rate once a knight takes
his 3rd Degree - Make sure each council has an advancement
Chairman whose total job is to move members
through their degrees
26District Deputy Retention Responsibilities
- The District Deputy should ensure that his
councils have an active retention committee
because - The best recruitment efforts are worthless if a
council can't keep its current members

membership makes council programs successful - Successful programs aid in retention

28 29When Retention Fails
- The Maryland State Councils suspension policy
is the same as the Supreme Council's. There is no
cutoff date for suspensions.
30 State Suspension Guidelines
- Each Council MUST have a Recruitment Plan to
replace lost members - No 1845s are to be submitted to Supreme unless a
copy is sent to the State Membership Director
with the State Retention Worksheet - Do not submit 1845s for members less than 12
months in arrears - Please process suspensions early in the Columbian
Year
31State Suspension Guidelines
- 5) Councils should clean their books of deceased
members and process the paperwork for disabled
members. - 6) Remember The State Council MUST receive the
1845 with a copy of the Retention Worksheet OR
the 1845 will be returned by Supreme.
32District Deputy Responsibilities Notice of
Intent to Suspend
- Determine if direct contact has been made by the
Council - Make contact with the delinquent member within 10
days - Record response on Form 1845
- Send Form 1845 to the State Membership Director

- Each District Deputy receives a monthly report
(F049) which includes - monthly and year-to-date results of each of his
Councils recruitment efforts - district totals

36Shining Armor Award
- To earn this award, during his first year, new
members must - Be involved in at least three council service
programs - Attend at least three council business meetings
- Receive their Second and Third degrees
- Meet with their Councils insurance
representative - Recruit at least one new member.

- To earn this Award, a member must
- Be involved in at least three council service
programs - Attend at least three council business meetings
- Be or Become a Third degree Member
- Recruit at least TWO new members. (NEW Members
recruit just one additional member over their
Shining Armor requirements)
