ADMISSIONS POLICY
  • Admissions Policy is available at

  • Covers both FE, UG PG applications
  • Direct applications (FE/PG)
  • UCAS applications (UG)

Changes to the current system
  • The College needs to increase admissions across
    all HE courses by 13
  • In November 2007 UCAS reported that nationally
    there had been a 5 reduction in applications
    compared to the same period in 2006

Recruitment Targets
  • Approved by the Management Committee
  • Issued this year in November 2007
  • Will be monitored throughout the cycle
  • Performance against recruitment target will also
    be scrutinised
  • Only Management Committee can close entry to a
    course

Application Forms
  • Forms should be collected PROMPTLY for review
    from the Registry
  • If you are rejecting a candidate without
    interview you MUST indicate why
  • If possible recommend the candidate to another
    course

Scheduling Interviews
  • Whenever possible interviews will be organised on
    set days on a Faculty basis and/or clusters of
    cognate courses
  • The Marketing Department will organise activities
    on interview dates to support the interview
    process
  • Feedback from interviewees will be collected and
    assessed by Marketing

The Interview
  • Two interviewers MUST be present
  • Use the standard interview form and complete as
    fully as possible in case of requests for
    feedback
  • Remember FoI when completing the forms BOTH
    interviewers must sign the form
  • Forms must be returned to the Registry along with
    original applications

Admissions Decisions
  • All rejection decisions by Admissions Tutors will
    be subject to review prior to the decision being
    formalised
  • Wherever possible applicants should be
    recommended to other courses if the original is
    not suitable

Clearing
  • Arrangements for clearing will be formalised in
    Easter 2008
  • There must be one nominated Clearing Admissions
    Tutor for each course
  • Registry will make a decision on candidates if
    Clearing Admissions Tutor is unavailable

Complaints Appeals
  • According to the Admissions Policy
  • applicants are entitled to request for
  • feedback following rejection
  • 14 requests in 2005/06
  • 25 requests in 2006/07
  • ??? in 2007/08

Talented Gifted Scheme
  • Admissions Tutors requested to nominate
    candidates for Talented and Gifted Awards
  • UG - 500 (per year)
  • PG - 1000 (one off payment)
  • Tutors should indicate on the record of interview
    form any candidates considered exceptional
  • Applications considered by a Panel in January
    post year of entry
