Who Should Decide?

• ? The People of New Orleans should be the ones
  to decide how the city is rebuilt
• ? The same corrupt elite that failed the city
  of New Orleans in the first place is only
  concerned with funneling relief funds into
  rebuilding casinos, hotels, chemical plants...
  mansions and condos (Klein).
• ? The power to rebuild their city is the only
  thing that can compensate the victims of
  Hurricane Katrina.
• ? If evacuees want to have homes and schools to
  return to, they will have to come back to New
  Orleans and fight for them

Why Should We Rebuild?

• New Orleans was the pivot of the American
  Economy. The ports of Louisiana handle all the
  physical commodities still necessary to modern
  life
• Three eighths of American produce on the way to
  market must pass through New Orleans
• where will all of the people that have been
  evacuated from New Orleans go?
• To not rebuild this New Orleans because it is
  below sea level is like saying we should shut
  down Los Angeles because it is built in an
  earthquake zone says former Louisiana Democratic
  Senator John Breaux (Lacayo).

• Rebuilding the city of New Orleans would create
  many jobs and training in decent paying
  industries (Klein)
• a chance to rebuild the city with a more diverse
  economy, stronger schools, better infrastructure
  and have the government pick up some of the tab
  (NPRAllen).

Will They Come Back?

• ? Shalom Matthews I dont know where well end
  up, she says, but were going to get out of
  Louisiana.
• ? Barry Peterson and his family have only one
  ambition and that is to get back home and help in
  the rebuilding effort.
• ? Peterson said Atlanta got burned to the ground
  and they rebuilt it. San Francisco was destroyed
  by an earthquake, and it came back. It will be
  the same with New Orleans We're one of the most
  unique cities in the world.

How do we rebuild?

• The rebuilding will require us to analyze what
  failed in the past and how it failed.
• Look at land-use policies, transportation
  networks, flood-control measures and the current
  building codes.
• Hospitals redesigned
• I-10 twin span, near the mouth of Lake
  Pontchartrain, with a miles-long bulwark rising
  out of the water. would knock down any storm
  surge rising out of the Gulf of Mexico i. e.
  stopping a hurricane with concrete. (About.com).
  
• restoring wet lands that have disappeared in the
  past several decades.
• buttress flood barriers to protect the city of
  New Orleans.
• build new houses and buildings with stronger
  steel and wood, unlike what was used to build
  these buildings in the first place.
