Birth of a river
  • This river began as a spring.(1)
  • Not all rivers start as a spring, the river
SEVERN started as a bog!!! (2)
  • (1) (2)

4
Stream of the Severn
  • The water starts to flow out of the bog and turns
    into a little stream.

5
Water cycle
  • This is a picture of the water cycle. The water
from the sea is evaporated into the air, forms
clouds and goes back to the sea.

6
Meanders
  • A meander is when a river does some dramatic
    turns.(1)
  • (1)

7
Erosion of a river
  • Erosion is when a river cuts into the side of a
bank and the earth e. g. trees, mud, grass.

8
Erosion of a river
  • Estuary If a river has a wide mouth, this is
called an estuary. The river carries a lot of
sediment as it travels from its source to its
mouth. When the fresh water from the river meets
the salty water from the sea, the river drops its
sediment. Most is then washed away by the sea,
the river and the tides. An estuary has a mixture
of salty and fresh water. The fresh water from
the river extends out into the sea. Some of the
salty water from the sea travels up the river
mouth. This mixture of salt and fresh water is
    called brackish water.

9
DELTAS
  • Delta FormationRivers move slowly at the river
mouth. The river carries a lot of sediment and
mud. The river deposits (drops) its sediment and
mud at its mouth. This sediment and mud spreads
out into a fan- like shape, or delta, across the
mouth of the river. If the force of the sea tides
and water is not very strong, the mud deposits
cannot be washed away. Instead, the deposits
break up the flow of the river water into many
smaller channels. The delta gradually gets bigger
and bigger. The new land is made up of billions
of pieces of mud, sediment and small rocks. This
sediment has been carried by the river from its
    source to its mouth.

10
COASTS
  • ALL COASTS ARE DIFFERENT IN EVERY WAY. LOOK AT
PIC(1) A NICE BEACH, NOW LOOK AT PIC (2).
  • (1) (2)

11
EROSION OF A COAST
  • WAVES ARE A VERY POWERFUL FORCE. LOOK WHAT THE
WAVES DID TO THIS ROCK!! ERODED A GIANT HOLE IN
    IT.

12
UNDERCUTS
  • THE SEA CAN ERODE ROCKS, IT ALSO CUTS INTO ROCKS.
YHE ROCK, WEAK COLAPSES INTO THE SEA.

13
HEADLANDS
  • A HEADLAND IS WHERE A PIECE OF LAND STICKS OUT
INTO THE SEA. THIS IS WHEN LAYERS OF SOFT ROCK IS
ERODED BUT LEAVES THE HARD ROCK WHERE IT IS. THIS
PICTURE SHOWS THE CLIFF OF A HEADLAND.

14
TIDAL LINE
  • A TIDAL LINE IS WHERE THE SEA CAME IN. SEE,
DIFFERENT TIDAL LINES. THATS BECAUSE THE SEA
    CHANGES!!!

15
SEA GROYNES
  • SEA GROYNES ARE USED ON BEACHES WHERE THE SURFACE
IS LOOSE. THEY ARE DESIGNED TO KEEP THE SURFACE
    STABLE.

GOOD BYE!!
  • THANKS FOR LOOKING AT MY PRESENTATION. I HOPE IT
    WAS GOOD!!
