Title: Intolerant

1
Intolerant!?
2
The only sin left
  • America is sick of intolerant people, and its
not going to tolerate them anymore! Daniel
    Taylor
  • Professor at Bethel Seminary

3
Changed Definition
  • The traditional definition, now referred to as
negative tolerance, is "to recognize and respect
    others' beliefs, practices, etc., without
    necessarily agreeing or sympathizing." But
today's definition is vastly different. Referred
to as positive tolerance, it says "every
individual's beliefs, values, life styles, and
truth claims are equal." Josh McDowell

4
Deference not indifference
  • Real tolerance is deference to all ideas, not
indifference to the truth. Ravi Zacharias
  • Tolerance applies only to persons, but never to
truth. Intolerance applies only to truth, but
never to persons. Tolerance applies to the
erring intolerance to the error. Bishop Sheen

5
Real Issue
  • Given that everyone agrees that some things
should not be tolerated, the real issue should
not be whether one is tolerant or intolerant, but
what's included on one's list. Daniel Taylor

Anti-Christs
  • 18Dear children, the last hour is here. You have
heard that the Antichrist is coming, and already
many such antichrists have appeared. From this we
know that the end of the world has come. 19These
people left our churches because they never
really belonged with us otherwise they would
have stayed with us. When they left us, it proved
that they do not belong with us. 20But you are
not like that, for the Holy Spirit has come upon
you, and all of you know the truth.

7
  • 21So I am writing to you not because you dont
know the truth but because you know the
difference between truth and falsehood. 22And who
is the great liar? The one who says that Jesus is
not the Christ. Such people are antichrists, for
they have denied the Father and the Son. 23Anyone
who denies the Son doesnt have the Father
either. But anyone who confesses the Son has the
Father also. 24So you must remain faithful to
what you have been taught from the beginning. NLT

8

Our Response
  • Pursue truth.
  • "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will
    set you free." John 832
  • This means embracing all peoplenot all beliefs.
  • Identify with justice.
  • "Blessed are they who maintain justice, who
constantly do what is right." Psalm 1063
  • Justice used to be the number-one virtue in
America. God calls us to "act justly."

12
A loving response
  • Act in love.
  • "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil cling
to what is good." Romans 129
  • God does not call us to be tolerant of our
neighbors. God calls us to love themat least as
much as we love ourselves. Before we all nod our
approval, we should take a sober look at what
that might entail. Biblical love is always
    sacrificial love. Daniel Taylor
