Title: WATCHMEN

1
WATCHMEN
  • Ezekiel 331-11
  • Ezekiel 317-21

2
WATCHMEN OF CHRIST
  • (Eph 618) Praying always with all prayer and
supplication in the Spirit, and watching
thereunto with all perseverance and supplication
for all saints (19) And for me, that utterance
may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth
boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
    (20) For which I am an ambassador in bonds that
therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
  • (Phi 23) Let nothing be done through strife or
vainglory but in lowliness of mind let each
esteem other better than themselves. (4) Look
not every man on his own things, but every man
also on the things of others. (5) Let this mind
be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus

WATCHMEN TO OUR BRETHREN
  • (Heb 125) And ye have forgotten the exhortation
which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son,
despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor
faint when thou art rebuked of him (6) For whom
the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth
every son whom he receiveth. (7) If ye endure
chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons
for what son is he whom the father chasteneth
not? (8) But if ye be without chastisement,
whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards,
and not sons. (9) Furthermore we have had
fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we
gave them reverence shall we not much rather be
in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and
live? (10) For they verily for a few days
chastened us after their own pleasure but he for
our profit, that we might be partakers of his
holiness. (11) Now no chastening for the present
seemeth to be joyous, but grievous nevertheless
afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of
righteousness unto them which are exercised
    thereby.
  • (Rev 319) As many as I love, I rebuke and
chasten be zealous therefore, and repent. (20)
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock if any
man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come
in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
    (21) To him that overcometh will I grant to sit
with me in my throne, even as I also overcame,
and am set down with my Father in his throne.
    (22) He that hath an ear, let him hear what the
    Spirit saith unto the churches.

WATCHMEN TO OUR BRETHREN
  • Rebuke-
  • to reprimand words expressive of disapproval of
    behavior that is not Christ-like
  • Admonish-
  • 1. To instruct or direct.
  • 2. To warn or notify of a fault to reprove with
    mildness
  • 3. To counsel against wrong practices to caution
    or advise
  • 4. to reprove a member of the church for a fault,
either publicly or privately the first step of
church discipline. It is followed by of, or
against as, to admonish of a fault committed, or
against committing a fault. It has a like use in
    colleges.

5
WATCHMEN TO OUR BRETHREN
  • (Rom 1514) I myself also am persuadedthat ye
are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge,
able also to admonish one another.
  • (Titus 215) rebuke with all authority. Let no
    man despise thee.
  • (I Tim 520-21) Them that sin rebuke before
    alldoing nothing by partiality.
  • (Titus 111-14) rebuke them sharply

6
WATCHMEN TO OUR BRETHREN
  • (Mat 1815) Moreover if thy brother shall
trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault
between thee and him alone if he shall hear
thee, thou hast gained thy brother. (16) But if
he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or
two more, that in the mouth of two or three
witnesses every word may be established. (17)
And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it
unto the church but if he neglect to hear the
church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man
    and a publican.
  • (1Jo 317) But whoso hath this world's good, and
seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his
bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the
love of God in him? (18) My little children, let
us not love in word, neither in tongue but in
    deed and in truth.

7
WATCHMEN TO OUR BRETHREN
  • (Tit 310) A man that is an heretick after the
    first and second admonition reject
  • (2Jo 18) Look to yourselves, that we lose not
those things which we have wrought, but that we
receive a full reward. (9) Whosoever
transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of
Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the
doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and
the Son. (10) If there come any unto you, and
bring not this doctrine, receive him not into
your house, neither bid him God speed (11) For
he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his
    evil deeds.
  • (Rom 1617) Now I beseech you, brethren, mark
them which cause divisions and offences contrary
to the doctrine which ye have learned and avoid
them. (18) For they that are such serve not our
Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly and by
good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts
    of the simple.

8
WATCHMEN TO OUR BRETHREN
  • (2Th 34) And we have confidence in the Lord
touching you, that ye both do and will do the
things which we command you. (5) And the Lord
direct your hearts into the love of God, and into
the patient waiting for Christ. (6) Now we
command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from
every brother that walketh disorderly, and not
after the tradition which he received of us. (7)
For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us
for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among
    you
  • (1Co 511) But now I have written unto you not
to keep company, if any man that is called a
brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an
idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an
extortioner with such an one no not to eat. (12)
For what have I to do to judge them also that
are without? do not ye judge them that are
within? (13) But them that are without God
judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves
    that wicked person.

WATCHMEN TO THE WORLD
  • (Mat 2819) Go ye therefore, and teach all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost
    (20) Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you and, lo, I am
with you alway, even unto the end of the world.
    Amen.
  • (Mat 514) Ye are the light of the world. A city
that is set on an hill cannot be hid. (15)
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a
bushel, but on a candlestick and it giveth light
unto all that are in the house. (16) Let your
light so shine before men, that they may see your
good works, and glorify your Father which is in
    heaven.

10
PREACHING THE GOSPEL
  • (Acts 165) the churches increased in number
    daily
  • (Acts 931) these that have turned the world
    upside down
  • (Col 123) the gospel was preached to every
    creatureunder heaven

11
THE GOSPEL IS FOR ALL
  • (Joh 317) For God sent not his Son into the
world to condemn the world but that the world
    through him might be saved.
  • (Col 127) To whom God would make known what is
the riches of the glory of this mystery among the
Gentiles which is Christ in you, the hope of
glory (28) Whom we preach, warning EVERY man,
and teaching EVERY man in all wisdom that we may
present EVERY man perfect in Christ Jesus

12
WARNING OF DANGER!!!
  • (1Pe 58) Be sober, be vigilant because your
adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh
about, seeking whom he may devour

13
CAUTION TO THE REBUKER
  • (1Ti 51) Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him
as a father and the younger men as brethren (2)
The elder women as mothers the younger as
    sisters, with all purity.
  • (Mat 73) And why beholdest thou the mote that
is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the
beam that is in thine own eye? (4) Or how wilt
thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote
out of thine eye and, behold, a beam is in thine
own eye? (5) Thou hypocrite, first cast out the
beam out of thine own eye and then shalt thou
see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy
    brother's eye.
  • (Mat 2313) But woe unto you, scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom
of heaven against men for ye neither go in
yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are
entering to go in. (23) Woe unto you, scribes
and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of
mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the
weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy,
and faith these ought ye to have done, and not
to leave the other undone. (24) Ye blind guides,
which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. (25)
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!
for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of
the platter, but within they are full of
extortion and excess. (26) Thou blind Pharisee,
cleanse first that which is within the cup and
platter, that the outside of them may be clean
also. (27) Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited
    sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful
outward, but are within full of dead men's bones,
and of all uncleanness. (28) Even so ye also
outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within
ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

14
THE PURPOSE
  • II Thess 314- that he might be ashamed
  • I Co 55- that the spirit may be saved in the
    day of the Lord Jesus.
  • Col 128- that we may present every man perfect
    in Christ Jesus

15
WHAT TYPE OF WATCHMEN ARE WE?
  • Like Jonah??
  • (Isa 5610) His watchmen are blind they are all
ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot
bark sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.
    (11) Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never
have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot
understand they all look to their own way, every
one for his gain, from his quarter. (12) Come
ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill
ourselves with strong drink and to morrow shall
be as this day, and much more abundant.
